I found a kitten tonight - well its small but could be about 3-6 months old. It was crying in the yard so I put a bowl of food out for it and went shopping. When I came back it had climbed my tree and was crying again. I got it down and asked around the neighborhood but apparently its a stray. Its a female. I think it may be in heat or something because it keeps on meowing. Its fine. walking, eating, drinking, purring etc it just won't stop with this really loud meowing. I was going to keep it overnight and take it to the Humane Society in the morning, but I think this meowing is going to drive u nuts. Is there anything (humane and legal please) that will quiet a cat in heat? Is it possible that a kitten as young as this would be in heat? Any ideas for me please? My cats are fixed and boys so we never went through this with them.

She probably just wants attention. Cats in heat are very affectionate. We had the same problem with our female who was extrememly vocal....but we spayed her so it solved the problem. Try to wear her out by playing with her....have a laser pointer?? That'll wear em out quick...a tired kitten is a quiet kitten.
Also, remember by taking them to a shelter there is no guarentee they will be adopted out...I am sure you know this..just wanted to remind.
*in reading answer above...I need to remind that 80% of cats are lactose intolerant and you will have a smelly mess to deal with if you give her cows milk.

I have a Himalayan that's 10yrs ancient. He had a stroke a even as again and is now thoroughly deaf. I understand what you're going via. My little one is particularly loud! Try giving him Benadryl at night time to quiet him down a bit of. You can deliver 1mg/pound. So in case your cat is 12 lbs you'll be able to deliver a million/two of a 25mg pill. If your cat is plenty smaller then that then use the young ones Benadryl liquid. If this does not paintings assess together with your vet. He/she perhaps in a position to prescribe whatever reminiscent of Xanax to quiet the cat at night time. Hope this is helping!

if it's less than 6 months old, it's unlikely that it is in heat.
someone probably dumped it, and it's scared to death, so crying. i would imagine that if someone held it and cuddled with it and gave it a secure place to sleep, it might stop.
