It depends. Cats are easier. If you're in apartments where you can't have noise, you have to stick with a cat.
If you don't have the time to walk a dog, or take it out to potty, then a cat.
A dog is like having a child. Lots of work. A cat is more trouble free, doesn't have to be taken out, ect.
Not that cats are second chioce, but a repsonable person doesn't get a dog unless they can commit to taking care of it. Just like having a child.

I love both, and maybe you should get both; but dogs are a bigger responsibility. Cats are easier to care for. If you want to leave for the weekend, cats can stay indoors and use the litter box. That's not possible with dogs. You have to walk your dog on a leash in most communities, but you won't have that responsibility with cats.

It makes sense that more people will say dogs seeing as this is the dogs section but.....I say both.
I have a cat who I have had for 13 years. She is my baby, my best friend and a real beautiful natured cat. She is so affectionate, loves hugs and cuddles, likes to sleep with me and is just gorgeous and would never dream of scratching or doing anything bad to me because she has such a gentle nature.
But I also love dogs too! They are such great fun pals to have, just want to be loved and have such personalities! I am getting a puppy on Friday and I can't wait to have a puppy to have fun with.
I think dogs and cats are special for different reasons and there are different things to love about both of them. Some people say one over the other because they have never met a nice one of the opposite. But some dogs are horrible as are some cats. But there are lots of good cats (including mine) and lots of great dogs too. It just depends on which one you meet!
But to answer you, I say both!

I was always a dog person, but I now realize that was because I was living at home with my parents. Older and wiser...and having to take on the responsibility myself, cats are the way to go for me. Less maintenance. If you're on the go a lot, dogs won't work out. The demand a lot of attention and when they don't get it in a positive way, they'll find ways to get it in a negative way!

I think that both make good pets. Cats can be loving and pretty relaxing. Dogs have high energy and love to play and then relax. It just depends on what you like. I have a dog and a cat and i love it.

I think if you live in a more rural area, dogs are good because they are loyal, snuggly pets (and i like them more than cats) and if you like in a city area, cats are easier to take care of because all they need is a litter box and food and you don't have to worry about leaving them alone

I love both dogs and cats. Each have something special the other cannot provide to their owner.
