I use the icing sugar into bowl first.Lets start with 3 cups
then add the butter about 4 tablespoons softened
flavoring can be Fry's cocoa 2 tbsp.
liquid can be milk or smooth mashed banana or cream, but by the tbsp. one at a time
Mix by hand with a fork.
It needs elbow grease, but then you can feel the texture and the thickness of the icing for spreading.
Keep mixing until smooth and creamy. This flavor(chocolate)
is so good on banana cake.

I use the recipe on the side of the sugar box, but then I use a little less milk and add some light corn syrup. It gives a really yummy texture.
Start with a stick of butter, softened (not melted) in the microwave (half a stick if you're only using half of one of those little boxes of conf. sugar).
Add sugar and milk gradually; mix well with an electric mixer to get the right consistency. Substitute light corn syrup for some of the milk for a creamier texture.

Two pounds of powdered sugar, 1 stick (1/2 cup butter) add 1/2 cup of vegetable shortening. vanilla a little bit of brandy or cognac and some corn syrup plus water to thin it to the consistency you'll be using. Softer for frosting, stiffer for decorating. Use more shortening for summer months and reduce the butter so the frosting doesn't fall off of your cake.

SNOW WHITE BUTTERCREAM ICING
This buttercream icing has an ideal consistency for frosting cakes. It has a firm quality making it good for wedding cake decorations and flat surface or flower nail flowers. Air dry decorations for 24 hours.
2/3 cup water
4 tablespoons meringue powder
12 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1-1/4 cups shortening
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
1/2 teaspoon clear vanilla flavoring
1/4 teaspoon butter flavoring
Combine water and meringue powder; whip at high speed until peaks form. Add 4 cups of sugar, one cup at a time, beating after each addition at low speed. Alternately add shortening and remainder of sugar. Add salt and flavorings; beat at low speed until smooth.
YIELD: 7 cups icing. Recipe may be doubled or cut in half; however, if cut in half, yield is only 2-1/2 cups.

Better Cream Whipped Cake Icing
¼ cup cold water
1 tsp unflavored gelatin
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 Tbsp. white sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
Chill mixing bowl and beaters for at least 15 minutes before using. Place water in a small microwave-safe bowl. Sprinkle gelatin over water and allow to soften 5 minutes. Dissolve gelatin by microwaving for 3 minutes, stirring after every minute. Remove from microwave and let stand at room temperature for 10 minutes; gelatin must be liquid but not warm when added to cream.
Remove bowl and beaters from refrigerator and pour in cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat together just until beater marks begin to show distinctly. Add gelatin mixture to cream, pouring in a steady stream while beating constantly. Beat until stiff peaks form. Use immediately.
