My friend and his family (wife and 2 daughters) flew to Mexico for a holiday. On the trip back, the plane experienced some sort of shut down and the turbulence was so bad the plane dropped as in free-fall for nearly one minute... My friend said everyone on the plane was screaming and the flight attendants looked "terrified". Eventually the plane got back to normal and they landed safely.

Now my friend and his family are VERY religious people...

Anyway, upon telling us the storey, my friend said after they landed and were in the airport his younger daughter told him the plane was saved by God. Because God did not want them to die... My friend was rather proud to share that part with us...

I told my friend: So God saved your plane (200 - 300 lives), but the same God let a million innocent die in Rowanda... what kind of God would do that??? My friend could not come up with any reply...

Anyway this is the kind of BS blind, gullible, believers, believe in....!

My theory: we don't get to choose when we die (unless we commit suicide, and the majority of society doesn't feel that's okay). While I was a volunteer @ a nursing home I saw a 95 y/o woman crying in her room. I went in and asked her why. She replied that she was tired of living and wanted to go home. Her children were all dead, her grandchildren never visited her. Then she asked me why God wouldn't take her home. I had no answer. Personally I don't see NOT dying in the plane crash as having been shown mercy. Life in this world is not easy. What if I was alive but sustained an injury which would effect me for the rest of my days? I don't call that merciful. I consider that something I have to face as a lesson of some sort. As for saving an atheist: it could be this atheist still has something to learn from life, just as a theist. One thing I've learned in life is that the "why" questions regarding life and people rarely have really definitive answers. Mostly it's easier to just accept what is than to ask why.

Man does not address so many of the serious problems in this world, so terrible things do happen. God, the unviversal force that hold the universe together, can guide us in solving these problems , but we must do the work. Our traditional religions depend on the inspiration, gotten during primitive times, before technology and science were much of a factor. We need fresh spiritual ideas, and a better connection and understanding of God, to be able to handle the serious problem of today. Meditation/prayer, mind-body exercise, eating healthy, not over indulging, and an openness to the best in spiritual ideas from whatever source can make one stronger spiritually. Life is challenging, but we are capable of meeting this challenge, if we would all work very hard at it.

God is a very confusing thing. He knew that the people didnt have any reson to die and nothing good would come from it. God knows that some how something good in the future is going to come from the people in Rowanda. You might not see it. But there will be. Nothing good would come from the people in the plane so why let them die.

umm to each unto thier own. The uncertainty they would all die when they got on the plane or by chance the plane came under control or by God - I don't think it matters that they believe 'twas God and I really think it is a good thing because when you think of it WHO really got hurt? Nobody right? As for all the bad things that you may believe their God is responsible for well who is really responsible for MAKING THE DECISIONS AND TAKING ACTIONS? men and women. I think you should cut these people some slack - who have they hurt in order to get what they want? (this is the question I ask) Joy and Peace

you cannot blame God. First off, God has a reason for everything. God saved all of those people on your friend's plane for a purpose. I think that one of the small purposes was so that that little girl could tell her parents, and so that family can witness to you, because you so desperately need it. The real question here is that: if something was to happen to you, would you make it? Praise God....praise Him that those people lived, and I hope that you DO decide to make the impacted change on your life that will help you...turn to God.

Well, you must be so very proud of yourself for belittling the words of a small child in front of her father. This is just the sort of long-winded, mean-spirited rant that some Atheists dislike because it makes Atheists in general look like they're ready to jump down Christians' throats at a moment's notice. Be happy that your friend and his family are safe. Respect others and learn some tolerance. You'll be less stressed, I promise.

1. People in Rwanda might not ask God for help. God is not going to randomly help you if you don't ask for help. When you need help with something and you keep it a secret from your parents do your parents end up helping you? No, because you didn't ask. It is the same situation.

2. Humans are the ones killing Rwandans not God. Have you seen God going to Rwanda and stabbing the people to death? No you haven't. HUMANS do that.

3. The Devil has a job too. He is supposed to make people suffer to make them not want to believe in God. Apparently it has worked on you.

They felt grateful to be alive...why would you feel the need to rob them of that? So maybe they are blind, gullible...they are only harming themselves if this is the case. When an atheist disrespects a believers need/ right to believe, it is no different from when a believer disrespects an atheist for not believing. I hope your friend is lucky enough to have other friends besides you.

I believe that we all have a time and place when we will leave this world. Perhaps the people in Rwanda, it was the time for them to leave this world to embark on another journey. Perhaps, because your friends were not saved, it gave them a chance to realize that they needed to work on a few things before their time really does come. In the end, ask yourself a simple question, "Do you want to take your last breath on earth/first breath in heaven/hell?" There are some things in this world that we cannot explain away...I know there is a god and that when it's our time to go, we will go on to live in eternity (either in heaven or hell). It's your choice.
