There is a program similar to what you are describing. It is found at http://www.angelsncamouflage.org/

Basically, you don't bring the soldier home with you (most of them are on duty and not released for the holidays).

Just as importantly as caring for our current soldiers, is to remember and "adopt" our US veterans. These are men and women who fought in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and those who served stateside. They need our support as well. The site for adopting a veteran is here: http://www.angelsncamouflage.org/application.html

Have a look....it's a very worthwhile charity.

Where's the sign up list....??
I'd be more than happy to participate ... Our Boys and Girls in the Services are all Heroes as far as I'm concerned so what's with the 2 people who answered that they'd do it only if they got Americans??? Am I missing a point here or is it something the English wouldn't understand?

EDIT
Join a Christmas Parcel Appeal.... Send a bit of Christmas to them ;-)

Yes. We actually did this, while my husband was recuperating at Walter Reed. A family took the time to invite us over for a holiday meal and let us enjoy the family atmosphere. It was an humbling experience and so I would want to give back just as it was given so freely to us. Soldiers that are recuperating and have no family, just want to enjoy the holidays, and forget their injuries, so ABSOLUTELY I would do it.

I've had unaccompanied airmen from the local air base at my home for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas for the past 21 years. And I'm retired from the Navy.

Absolutely, I do this nearly every year as a military wife....we ask all of our single friends to come for dinner, and to celebrate the holidays with us. In the military community you only have each other. These single sailors in our case....are just as much a part of our family as our real brothers and sisters. You don't even know how much it means to them! It's really hard to be away from family, trust me I know...I'm 2500 miles from home this holiday season.
