We have a small dog who is about 2 yrs old.. we found him wodering the streets (a year ago). When we take him out for walks or just to the store and he sees other dogs he cries. He is the only dog we have at the moment and I think he is just lonely and needs a friend but we can't afford another dog at the moment.. when we get home is gets overly excited.. we give him a lot of attention and we play with him all the time, take him for walks... so why does he cry when he sees other dog's???? is he lonely???

Dogs learn to behave in a manner that gets them attention so he 'cries' because he gets attention from you, not because he is 'lonely' or 'needs a friend'. You should be his friend. Don't be getting another dog if you can't afford it, that would be irresponsible. Simply be sure that the time you give to this one is meaningful time. He might not even like other dogs -- dogs cry or whine out of excitement and he may be wanting to go after the other dogs. If you are giving him sufficient time and companionship, then he won't be lonely. Maybe take him through some training classes as it will help you learn to better train him as well as will give y'all some bonding time.

He just wants to play. Maybe take him to a dog park or to play with another dog you know will play good with him. Remember dogs need/like attention other from humans.

He may just be lonely. If you can't afford another dog, take him to visit friends that have dogs or a dog park. Good luck.

its seems as though he wants to play, do you have a dog park near you? maybe you can set a play date up with a friends dog. Instead of barking you have a dog that cries, its a very similiar thing. Don't worry it seems like he is just fine. good luck.

He may just want to play with other dogs. Just because you can't afford another dog yourself doesn't mean you can't take him to a park to play with other dogs.
