anyone know where i can find an axle for a tricycle?

i am designing a bike for a project for school. i need to find a place online where i can get an axle for a two person tricycle. The entire axle has to be spinning because the gears will be in the middle. anyone know where i can go??
this is for school, so i would need for it to be donated. so buying from private sellers probably wouldnt work

If you have machine shop skills and access to lathes at the school's shops you could use a round bar (cheap material) and do the threading etc yourself (free labor).
