i know 2 people that i would describe as hypochondriacs. always at the doctors, never recieve serious diagnosis, take copious amounts of medication, always fretting about and complaining about their ailments and calling doctors "quacks".

yes it is terrible. I became this way at 35. I know I have it so when I am convinved I had such and such. I know I don;t in reality and try to stay in reality. Its hard. I have to always change the chanel when they are talking about a medication and symptoms because it'ss get stored in my subconscious and I'll think I have it a few months later. The person who has it ahs to be proactive and realize they are a hypochondriac and be strong and not give in to the complusions. They mind is powerful and can make you think you ahve strong symptoms when you don't.

I think hypochondria could be classified as a mental disorder. People that suffer with this need to see those doctors for everything and think they are sick all the time. It must take over their lives.

It's considered a mental illness. It can change to more serious illnesses, such as seeking surgeries.
