They are more app to ask what have you been doing lately? They want know where and what you have been doing that relates to the job opening. Not that you went fishing in Florida. They might ask what skills you have. They are talking about your education or experience. Not that you can touch your nose with your tongue. They might ask have you ever had a certain problem at work and how you dealt with it. Don't bring up your weakness or special needs. Let them led the conversation. Respect them, even the receptionist. All they have to do is make one negative comment and your application is in trash.

This is typically a question asked to determine the interviewees confidence (or *********), concise speak, how well of a CULTURAL fit you are and sets the tone for the interview. Before answering this question 1) breathe, 2) engage brain then, 3) activate mouth. Believe it or not your answer helps to relax the interviewer as well as you. Keep in mind that there is no right answer to this question, however, some baseline parameters do exist. For instance don't ramble; keep your answer short (between 30-60 seconds), start with where you are from, then the college you attended (mention any college activities, jobs, relevant courses, etc.) and name some hobbies if you like. Remember that they want to know about YOU, not your family or pets. Avoid mentioning "How you beat your drug/alcohol/sex addiction" while in college or GPAs less then 3.00.

Whenever I get asked this question I always think...."Not again!" It is a lame question that buys the person interviewing you some time to think up some questions or review your resume.

I tell them about my career path and how it has progressed over time, which has gotten you to where you are today....applying for their position.

Hope this helps.

Part of you telling about yourself is to give you chance to say what they cannot read on your resume. Don't tell them what they can obviously see. Like physical traits.
Ex. I have been working in this field for the past xxx years, I have always been hardworking and committed to the team concept of helping reach my company objectives. I like working with people and I believe in giving an honest day of work for fair pay. I like to be straight forward so if I have a problem, I would like to be able to come to my boss with it right away, blah, blah, blah. You get the idea.
Part of it is to get to know you, part of it is to find out how well you can hold a conversation and be articulate.
