I am a devote Catholic. Some of my co-workers go to a Fundamentalist Church and are always trying to get me to attent their Church. One even made the comment that Catholics are not Christians. Anyone ever dealt with this particular denomination?

To get people to follow you, convince them there is a problem and you have the answer.

In their eyes, the problem is since you don't believe what they believe you are going to Hell. But, they have the answer, join their Church.

The Catholic church is the original Christian church, all other Christian religions branched off from the Catholic church during reformation. This was accidently started by Martin Luther.

As each church started, they found something they didn't agree with and modified the beliefs to meet their needs. This isn't a bad thing, the Catholic church started and used some of the same principles.

Actually, the Catholic church canonized the Bible. The King James X version is based on Martin Luthers translation. It has 3 books removed that Martin Luther did not like in the Catholic version of the bible. You'll find most other Christian religions use a bible based on the King James X.

Most churchs do say others are going to hell for not following their religion. This works very well to get people to follow their beliefs.

Interestingly enough, the Catholic church does not believe non-catholics are going to hell. They believe other Christians will be saved but they also believe they are mis-guided by not being a Catholic.

Bottom line, any Christian church that thinks they are better makes no sense since their Church would not exist without the Catholic church ever existing.

I'm Lutheran, ELCA. Wikiepedia has some great information on various religions if you ever have an entire day or two to blow reading it all.

I'm a Catholic too and deal with it not just from fundamentalists but Baptists and some others too. We do not call ourselves Christians because we are baptized at birth. They are baptized when they feel they are ready to be saved. I was always taught that as long as you believe and keep God at the helm of your ship and live your life accordingly that you'll go to heaven.
Just believe what you believe. I don't think God is petty or that he has enough time to sit around worry about who calls themselves "saved". I do know for a fact that God would not appreciate them even saying that we aren't going to heaven.
God doesn't like ugly.!!!!!
I always ignore them and know what I was taught and how I live and have no question in my mind that I'm going to heaven. Words are just words, it's a shame they waste them on something that is not true.

There mare no fundies in heaven!!! Christian Fundamentalist is a whole contradiction in phrases!! CHRISTIAN – A follower or believer in Jesus. FUNDAMENTALIST One who believes the Bible is actually actual and ought to be adopted precisely. Therefore they're fans of the bible and now not Jesus making them non Christians!!! But worse is to comply with it additionally makes them ideologists. IDEOLOGY An thought that's fake or held for the flawed explanations however is thought with such conviction as to be irrefutable. So Christians have a loving and forgiving god and fundamentalist - good - Just aren't Christians!!!!

Because you are not reborn and saved by Jesus. Which is odd because you attend the First Christian church, they are off shoots and yours has Jesus most trusted disciple as the start of the church. You believe that his mother is a saint and will if you pray to her will invite your spirit into heaven. They say that you have to ask Jesus to save you, doesn't matter that you are the first church of Christ. It's like they made a step that you have to do or you don't get in. i think it has a little insecurity factor because they will scripture you to death and they can find or interpret them the way they want to see it. I am agnostic and what you believe is nothing for me to like or dislike, in fact I find that people that can accept a savior are very lucky.

Fundamentalism is defined as “the practice of asserting the absolute truth of your own beliefs and practices to the deliberate exclusion of the possibility of truth in the beliefs and practices of others.” It is nothing but bigotry.

Fundamentalists have this "holier than thou" attitude, which gets in your nerves. They always presume to know more about your religion than you do. Fundamentalists talk as if no case could be made for the Catholic faith.

Are they our modern day Pharisees?

How can I bring myself to even respect them? They resort to black propaganda and lies. Here are some examples of their lies and propaganda.

+ The Pope is the Anti-Christ (they have been saying this since Martin Luther made the accusation).

+ The Church is the Whore of Babylon in the book of Revelation

+ Catholics are not Christians

+ Catholics put Mary in the same level as God

+ Catholics worship statues and idols

+ The Catholic teaching on Indulgence is a permission to commit sin

+ The Catholic Church is the Mother of all harlots.

+ Catholics worship Satan

+ The Catholic Church started Islam

If these allegations were true I would be the first to leave the Catholic Church. And to add insult to injury they justify these allegations by saying “we don't want you to go to hell; we love you” which to us is a lame excuse for bashing Catholics. Do they really expect us to fall for that line? Catholics do not bash other religions because we know we belong to the true Church. Bashing Catholicism also shows Fundamentalists are insecure people. If they are so sure about their beliefs why bash Catholicism? They have already told us a million times what they do not like about our faith. And they have also warned us a million times we will go to hell with those beliefs. So, what really is their reason for attacking our faith again and again? There can only be two reasons: to validate their own faith which means they are insecure and unsure of their own faith or they just want to bash my faith.

To my fundamentalist brothers & sisters: Jesus said, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. – Matthew 7, 1-2 (KJV)

I'm sorry that you are being treated that way. Please know that there are millions of Christians within your church, and plenty outside your church that accept you. Perhaps they are just misguided, and don't fully understand the book of Revelation? I guess they feel that the reference refers to all those in the Catholic church. Maybe they find it easiest to proselytize from the Catholic church, thus adding more members, and money, to their own? You would do well to continue to study within your church so you can answer them well, and feel good about your own beliefs.

ask your self this question do you put complete faith in the teachings of jesus christ? do you acknowledge he was the perfect sacrafice? can you truely accept the pope has no godly powers on earth or even in his room? after all the pope is a man and all men sin, our sins were repented by the perfect sacrafice, jesus christ. next time you repent your sins ask your self this question. why? do i confess my sins to another man? this man himslef is a sinner the same as me, he is no more holy then me, the holy one is the trinity; father, son, and holy ghost. confess your sins only to the lord. i also ask you this the pope is a man so which man does the pope confess his sins? or is he better then every other cathiolic man? i have many friends who are or were catholic those who know say they were catholic and now are christians are better people for you to ask your questions to.

I have relatives with every religion possible including Moonies. There are those that think Catholics worship the saints as idols. I had to deal with those types of people too.
Just tell him that your church will forgive him and let him steam.

Great Evil has been done in the name of GOD...

The Catholic Church hasn't had a good record in that respect.

Neither do the Muslims.

Being CHRISTIAN is a state of mind, not a type of religion.

There are many paths to the supreme being. Find your own path and follow it....
