I think sharing a meaningful life and getting people to be "saved" are two completely different things. Religion should never be forced on anybody, no matter how Christian/Mormon etc one is. I tend to believe that people that force themselves like that have a mission in life to "save" people- kinda like God or some higher power spoke to them and told them it's a mission for them to work on, and if he/she doesn't he/she will be judged. Maybe people in the south believe the whole notion of "believe in Christ or you shall be judged" more so than people in the North. I personally can't stand it when some tries to preach to me about reading the bible, doing this or doing that. Religion is something each individual should explore o their own terms. My fondest memory is from when I was a 12/13 years old- a group of Mormon missionaries rang the doorbell and my mom answered. She was respectful and let them speak first. Then she said, "Sorry we are not interested. By the way, we are Catholics." She closed the door and walked away. I proabaly wouldn't do that and I respect each person for whatever religion he/she follows, but that was a great laugh during the moment in time.

You know some of these responses make me laugh as well- "because we are commissioned to". Who is making you do that? I firmly believe that whatever higher power is up there doesn't want us to force ourselves onto others, let alone it be a religion. I do agree with others about it being some money making thing. Slap my forehead and I'll faint and be saved!!!! Give me a break.

They just do. I believe in God, but I can't stand most church people (I refuse to call them Christians) and I never go to church. My relationship with God is very personal. It's not like other people's relationships with Him. If it was it wouldn't be special! I used to mimick other people and their relationships with God, until I realized that I didn't really know God, I was just putting up a front so people at church and at school would accept me and not give me the kind of problems that people seem to be giving you. I'm glad I stopped doing that. Only God and I can know what kind of a relationship He and I have. It's the same as human relationships. Other people can only see it from their point of view, and everyone's point of view is different. Try telling them that if they get on your case. It may not change anything, though. You just have to accept that people are the way they are, and then either move away from it or just don't let it bother you. I love God for everything he gives me, and I spend every waking moment feeling thankful and happy. That's all I need to do. The rest of the Bible is just words as far as I'm concerned. I love a God, not a book.

Speaking personally, I was born and raised in the South, was saved at 16, am now 41, and I don't insist on saving anyone. I fully acknowledge that I can save no one. I do, however, take Jesus' commission to present the gospel quite seriously. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God to all who believe, to the Jew first, but also to the Gentiles. I will, for as long as I have breath, present the truth of God in love to any who are willing to hear. I do not judge, but I certainly will discern who are His by their actions. Maybe if you'd live what you seem to be saying you believe, folks would leave you alone. Again, I'm not judging, just saying that's one possibility. I quite imagine if you claimed to be saved but didn't live like it, folks wouldn't keep bashing you on the head with the Gospel message. Maybe it's something else entirely. Examine yourself and see what's got folks convinced you need to have the Gospel presented to you so much. Welcome to the Bible Belt.

That is what they believe and they want to save you. They believe that the ultimate punishment for not believing is hell and they don't want that for anyone. They are suppose to be recruiting for God, that's what the bible says to do. They mean well.

I don't know what I believe, or if God is real or where we came from. Maybe someday I will but defiantly not if it's forced upon me. Some Christians don't understand that it turns some people away by pushing the word on others.

I can't save anyone, only God can do that by forgiving them of their sins. On the other hand, Jesus chose people to spread the gospel. Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 1:20-24.

If someone had the cure for AIDS and failed to share it, what would people say? How loving could such a person be? Jesus died for our sins because he loved us. John 3:16. Just how much do we really love our neighbors?

People from the North might be accepting any doctrine to have their "ears tickled." 2nd Timothy 4:1-5. Therefore, they are less likely (but not always) to try to lead people to salvation. The bible says "No one is good, NO not one; we all do not have real understanding." (Romans chapter 3) Without Jesus Christ as your personal Savior you are (we all are), according to the bible, doomed for all eternity; where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth, where the Worm never dies. Condemned forever because of one simple thing, Unbelief!

Ultimately, if we do our duty, many will believe and not be condemned. That is why we appear to be judgmental.

You speaking in duplicity.

You insist you are Christian with Christian beliefs, but are arguing against the faith of other Christians.

Am I the only one who sees something very wrong in your question?

By the way, I lived in New York and South Carolina, and I would much rather deal with southern hospitality if it meant lending an ear to a fellow, as opposed to the crassness and rudeness I experience up North.

i do no longer insist on redefining something. perhaps you're generalizing slightly there? Sorry, yet in basic terms through fact some people define atheism otherwise than you do does not propose they're inevitably attempting to insult you. perhaps they simply don't get it and might income on a proof of your very own definition extremely than a 2d incorrect that may not make a appropriate.

Many take the obligation out of context, and so you will see people walking around with frying pans trying to beat a belief into a person. It never works that way. Just learn to say thank you and I must be going now.

If you knew a way to have everlasting life and saw people that you loved who didn't, wouldn't you want to tell them? Christians believe that the word and promises of God are the greatest news ever so of course they want to share it. If you are getting married, you don't hide it. You tell everyone you know with happiness.
