The max Soldiers Group Life Insurance is $400K as Mrs. Jvsb indicated. Its available in $50K increments so a service member could carry significantly less. There is also a $100,000 death gratuity intended to help with rent/mortgage travel arrangements etc until the SGLI kicks in. When I worked casualty affairs, the military would pay $6K towards the funeral...funeral expenses above that were the family's responsiblity. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't. Many military spouses have jobs versus careers and can't replicate the income generated by the military member.

I'm in the US Air Force. If I die in the act of duty, my family would receive $100,000 plus 2000 for funeral expenses. If the service member in question has SGLI (military life insurance), beneficiaries will receive up to $400,000 depending on which life insurance plan (if any) they opted for. I really don't know how the Army, Navy and Marines work on this.

Is that what you are most concerned about, how much money you get if your family member dies in service?
SAD!
Did you lose someone and want to cash in, or are thinking about having someone sign up and crossing your fingers?
