I love deep fried turkey. I have a friend from New Orleans that deep fries a turkey for our Thanksgiving dinner every year. Before the turkey is cooked it is injected with cajun spices and then deep fried. It is full of crispy, spicey, yummy goodness. But, make sure to take safety precautions when you deep fry a turkey. There are lots of fires this time of year due to people misusing the fryer.

Whether or not you'll prefer a deep-fried turkey depends on your tastes. Because a deep-fried turkey cooks much more quickly than a traditional roasted turkey, the white meat and much of the dark meat will be moister-- the frying locks in the juices. However, some of the meat (especially the drumsticks and wings) will be nuclearized-- not too pleasant to eat.
Most people who try deep fried turkey love it. It's just imporant not to overcook it, and take it out as soon as the appropriate amount of time has passed.
Check out http://www.divinedinnerparty.com/turkey-deep-fryer-recipe.html for instructions (and pros and cons) for deep frying a turkey. Deep frying a turkey is quite a lot of work, but it can be lots of fun (especially for the men in the family) and turns out great. Usually. :)
Unfortunately, I've never used an electric turkey fryer, but they seem like a great idea. The only thing to keep in mind is how much kitchen space they'll take up (how often, after all, will you use such a massive fryer?), and that they'll have a somewhat smaller capacity than an outdoor propane turkey fryer.

not sure if it's the same fryer you're referring to but I highly recommed that form of cooking a turkey. The skin has a light crisp and the meat on the inside stays sooooo juicy not like typical turkey that seems dehydrated. Make sure if you use one that you inject it with some seasoning and do some research on what oil to use because that's makes a big difference in your finished product!

i actually think that deep fried turkery is drier than normal cooked turkey in a roaster. It is also very oily on the outside. I don't think you get near the amount of flavor that you get cooking it in the oven or one of those roaster things.
The key to a very moist turkey is to brine it over night. And don't cook it too long. Get one of those thermometer things that tells you the internal temperature of the turkey. take it out when it is just shy of the desired temp.

I find deep fried turkey is moister and if you inject with a store bought marinade, it can be very, very flavorful.

Very delicious, however if you do it make sure the turkey is fully thawed out.
