Hey Ya'll, I've aquired a cookbook that was published in Quebec,Canada in a box of junk books. There's a trifle recipe I'd love to try for the upcoming holidays that calls for pineapple
jelly powder. Is jelly powder the same as jello gelatin??? The recipe also calls for one envelope of unflavored gelatin to be dissolved in pineapple juice. Iam sure that's the same as the little Knox envelopes I've used for years??? Thanks for any reply in this matter.

Hey Ya'll, again, maybe because of the 250mL(1Cup???) of pineapple juice not setting well that's why it requires the jelly powder(aka box of jello") and 1 envelope unflavored gelatin (aka Knox)
I guess it's a "Southern thang" that we ladies into congelled salads and soft desserts.

It's been intresting trying to firgue out mL,L,kgs into cups, ounces, lbs and other names for common ingredients have other names. This cookbook has been little adventure outside my normal cooking.

yes it is the same, love! I would avoid putting pineapple juice in though, cause it might not set. Good luck, it sounds delicious!

From what I understand, jelly powder is the jello powder BEFORE you add the water and turn it into gelatin. So if the recipe calls for "pineapple jelly powder", go to the store and buy some pineapple jello and just add that powder.

Yes, unflavored gelatin (Knox) is the same stuff as flavored Jell-O products.

The stuff used to make jams, jellies and preserves are made using pectin, which is different from gelatin.

Based upon your description, I would guess that your recipe calls for a gelatin based product.

What you call jelly is what we in the US call Jello. Jello is a brand name but even other brands are still referred to as Jello Our jelly is like jam or preserves only made with only the fruit juice.
