My dog doesn't go outside often. Since then he has gotten this bump on the back of his neck. It's heals and scabs fine, but it continues to not heal completely. My dog can't go outside b/c we aren't allowed to have dogs, but is fully trained to use pee pads. Does anyone one think that's his skin is drying out b/c he doesn't go outside often? I feel he scretches the area and that's why it won't heal. Any thoughts?

The Dog is a pekingese and they don't require a lot of exercise for those who want to be rude. They have very small noses and can't stand a lot of excercise.

Thank You to the constructive remarks, but if you've never had a pekingese than u wouldn't know that they can't stand HEAT OR EXTREME ELEMENTS. HE GOES OUTSIDE BUT NOT AS OFTEN AS HE DIDN'T B/F WE MOVED. Give my dog away, the dog can barely stand for me to leave him. He's a very spoiled dog, even the puppy daycare techs say so. He's had more shots and test than a human. Mind your own damn busy and help not hurt. Freaking nutters.

Sounds like a sebaceous cyst. They just kind of happen the same way we humans get skin tags. They ooze and scab until the dog scratches them and then they ooze and scab over again. They never go away and the only way to get rid of them is to have the vet remove them in surgery. They aren't harmful, just annoying. If it isn't bleeding all over the house and driving you crazy, wait until your dog needs other surgery like a dental cleaning and have the vet remove it then :)

I would suggest you see a vet about this. And where do you live that doesn't allow you to have a dog? Not being able to go outside is very very unfair to the dog. If you are in an apartment situation, is there anyway you can sneak the dog out once in awhile, or even find another place to live? Your poor dog!!! I understand that having a dog may be important to you, but you've got to give that pup a breath of fresh air! Is it the high energy type?

Gosh. I just can't get over a dog that never gets to see the outdoors!

Check the scab area very closely and see if it looks like something inside it. If you press on it gently, does it feel like something rolling under the skin? If so, you should really get to the vet. Google 'Bot Fly Larvae' or 'Warble' pictures and see if it looks like this. That is a fly that lays it's eggs on an animal, usually around the neck area, and the larvae burrows under the skin causing a lump with a scab in the middle that doesn't heal. If it could be that, a vet needs to remove the larvae and give antibiotics, as they usually cause a bad infection long before they would leave on their own.

I don't know about the spot, but I am very worried about a dog being forced to spend its life in some apartment. This is not a good life for the dog. I understand completely, like if you have a beautiful pit bull and there is some cruel, wrong law in place, but you must figure out a way to get your dog out. Be creative. One of a dog's first requirements is a long walk, daily. Currently, your best friend is in prison and you are the jailer. PLEASE do what is right.

i'd strongly propose taking him into your vet. Spots the place hair is lacking is somewhat in all probability an illustration of Dermidex Mange. that's somewhat undemanding for a vet to confirm if it is your dogs problem. All it takes is a small dermis scraping and a glance in the microscope. examine something of his physique for the patches besides. in many cases you will see the patches on the face, neck, applicable of head besides via fact the ft, that's thoroughly treatable yet does take time. there are the two dips besides as oral drugs to handle and get rid of them. in my opinion, from speaking with our vet she would opt for to apply the oral medicine no count if that's caught early than the dips. I even have seen the medicine paintings in a count of two or 3 weeks yet have seen it additionally take 5 months. significant component is to shelter it early particularly than wait. it would additionally be from the collar. try getting an undemanding leather-based collar. I even have seen some dogs have a difficulty with the nylon enormously people who've very fantastic hair. sturdy success

Well, it is VERY unhealthy since your dog isn't going outside. If you don't get your dog outside, give him some excercise, if you can't do these basic things YOUR dog NEEDS, I suggest giving him away to someone YOU know who will.
