First of all you have to convince people that there is a 2012 problem.
I am in the IT field, and there wasn't the predicted 2000 problem then. It just didn't happen. People in the industry knew it wasn't an issue, but people outside the industry who thought they knew what they were talking about had everyone concerned. What a sham.
So before me and millions of other get concerned about a 2012 problem, you have a lot of hard selling and convincing to do.

I am sorry that I was a little bit responsible for the 2000 problem, being a computer programmer in the 70's.... but I swear I didn't cause the 2012 problem

there is no 2012 problem, any more than there was a 2006 probnlem, a 2000 problem, a 1981 problem, a 1914 problem, etc.

Well all they have to do is wait until 2012 passes and nothing happens... then the problem will have fixed itself but the end-of-the-worlders will have decided on another date.

I think the best idea might be to make sure you're (you:everyone) satisfied that you've made the right choices in life and have faith. If something does happen, you shouldn't have a reason to worry. If nothing happens you literally didn't worry for nothing!
