i'm a college student. i'm not lazy, but whenever i don't have to get up for anything i will sleep until forever...like i slept basically all day today. my alarm goes off but i seriously cannot get up. during the week i sleep only a few hours a day so maybe it's my body trying to catch up? i wish i could get up at say 8am every day but my body just won't do it.

Well there can be a lot of reasons why you are sleeping a lot. Depression, boredom, Seasonal Affective Disorder. Could you be avoiding something that you don't want to do?

In the Summer, when the weather is nice---I have no problem with getting up early and enjoying the day. Once the weather gets colder and the sunlight is less, I rather just stay in bed.

If you really want to change your excess sleeping you are going to have to change some habits. During the week make a concerted effort to go to bed at the same time everynight. TRY to get at least 6-7 hours sleep.

Make plans for the weekend. Go shopping or to a movie---something. You need to find some activity that you really want to do.

I once told my doc that I slept my weekends away. He then asked me when I was on vacation, did I sleep the whole time?
When I was just on a cruise I didn't sleep the whole time either.

If you make plans with a friend to do something, this will force you out of your bed into activity.
When I was in college I also slept all weekend.

The reason you are sleeping so much is because your body is sleep deprived. You will not function well without getting a reasonable amount of sleep.
The best thing to do, which is hard in college, is to have a set sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up at around the same time everyday. Once your body gets into the habit of waking up at 8am everyday it will be easy. As long as your getting enough sleep.

You need to make yourself get up your body has gotten use to the fact that on weekends it does not need to be wake..also try fitting some small naps in during the week as it could also be trying to catch up what was missed out on.While sleeping body works most at keeping you healthy and repairing it's self.....

I have a similar problem to that. I find that if you just MAKE yourself get up than you will feel more awake and energetic. I would also suggest getting more sleep during the weekdays so you don't feel that you have any to catch up on during the weekends.

Get wired and drink A LOT of iced coffee or hot coffee or whatever caffeinated beverage you have a liking to.

Are you perhaps suffering from depression? That can cause the kind of sleeping you describe.
