I just wanted to know if anyone else had a cat with asthma and wanted to know how your cat is doing. If they are on any meds currently?

We found Isis outside literally on our door step November of 2006. We took her in, tried to find her owner. No one came forward so we were going to foster her and adopt her out. Then she became very ill and we almost lost her. We took her to the vet who after several tests said she had asthma.
She was put on Terbutaline and Prednisolone. She was doing better but still had trouble when she got stressed (Getting used to the other cats. She was a people cat but not a cat cat for sure).
In July after moving, we starting weaning her off (first attempt was unsuccessful) again and she was doing great. She is now completely off her medication and she is doing wonderful. she is used to all the cats now and is more active and alive than I have ever seen her. The vet said she never thought she would be off medication.

I know that asthma symptoms can be linked to other things. She was tested for heart worms and she was tested for heart problems too. They did blood tests.
When we first brought her in, they thought it was either a heart condition or asthma and they tested and did an Xray and an echo cardiogram and ruled out the heart problem.
They did a wash of her esophagus to look at cells.
I know of some cats that are on pills once a week, once a day, twice a day, some that are on inhalers. I have her medicine in case she has an episode.

Also, there are different triggers to the asthma attack. We moved into a house that was redone (new carpet, new everything) and probably a lot cleaner than our crappy appartment. And she is used to the other cats now.

I didn't ask the question to have her diagnosis questioned. I know, at first, I had trouble finding others in my situation...

Chocolate and every other dairy merchandise are hazardous for cats as they're truthfully lactose illiberal. I have not heard of a cat having bronchial asthma however I would not say it is inconceivable, I'd examine along with your vet in case you suppose your cat is having crisis respiring. To get a cat to drop some pounds I might be chopping again it is quantities, are not making dry meals to be had all day (we feed our cats a few dry meals within the morning and rainy meals at night time, they look comfortable with that.) however to be definite I might speak about an proper vitamin along with your vet.

Hmmm, most cats with true asthma have to take medication most of their lives. I wonder if she had something else, like heartworms? The symptoms mimic asthma exactly. If the heartworms died, it could have caused breathing problems, but after being eliminated by the body, the cat would return to normal. Was an antigena and antibody test done for heartworms on your cat? Just curious but I'm glad she's better!

My cat had asthma, and he had to stay on prednisone for many years. I wanted to get him off the meds, but he would start coughing again. It's good news if your cat doesn't have to take anything.
