My grandmother has been paranoid schizophrenic for most of my life. I'm 35...
Speaking from experience, I strongly suggest that you seek medical attention for her ASAP...and depending on if she IS infact ill or not, consider the fact that ONE DAY she may have to be hospitalized. But whatever you do, don't allow her to check herself into a STATE FACILITY...all they do is kep patients locked up and drugged up. They get patients to check themselves in and NOBODY but the patient can get them out (and because they're state funded...every head counts as a buck!)
I don't know what personal hell my grandmother has been going thru, but I can tell you that there is very little assistance out there for people suffering from mental illness. She has been on SEVERAL different cocktails of medication. She hears voices that tell her they're going to kill her. She hears voices that tell her that they're going to kill ME. She refuses to take her meds because "they" have poisoned them. She's been kicked out of one assisted care facility because she refused to come out of her room for meals. She's gotten at least 5 people to QUIT THEIR JOBS from the assisted care facility that she lives in NOW because they don't understand her illness and they're afraid of her threats.
GET HER HELP!!
If you feel afraid FOR her, imagine how she must feel...she's living in her own hell on earth.

I don't think so! Schizophrenia is a very traumatic and debillitating disorder. Paranoia is an illogical fear and the fear that someone is bothering her or her car is not so illogical. We live in a paranoid nation (USA) where many people mistrust and fear others and our government has an illogical fear of other nations. Self diagnosis or diagnosis by a non professional is usually wrong. Knowing what the disorder entails makes one able to assess whether a proffesional opinion is needed
To find out the criteria for a diagnosis of schizophrenia (which is not a single disease but a spectrum of disorders) type "schizophrenia" into Yahoo! web search. A number of informative links comes up; wikipedia has a good summary. To find out what a psychiatrist uses in diagnosing schizophrenias type in "DSM IV TR" into the search engine; this will give you links whereby you can read the criteria for diagnosis of all mental disorders.
I truly hope this helps you and your mother in getting over irrational fears, good mental health, peace and Love!

It's possible. Next time you get a doctor's physical, tell your doctor how your mom acts. You can't diagnose schizophrenia on your own, but if she is truly acting nuts then you can tell somebody who CAN diagnose her.

Flor, Shuddup, unrelated. All I can say is wait, ask your surgeon, attempt to have amusing, devour a cow, kill a bird, and scream to the sky. Not neccesarily in that order. Cheer up Buttercup, lifes cool, have amusing whle it lasts.

my mom was like that. Good for you to realize so young. I was 35 when I realized she was paranoid and delusional. Just be kind to her and keep yourself firmly planted in reality.
