I participate in no "high risk" activities, but am convinced I have the virus despite 3 negative tests over the course of two years. Is there any hope I'll stop obsessing?

I am a 24 year old virgin (no sexual contact of any kind), who has never used drugs, never had a blood transfusion, and never had someone's blood come in contact with mine. I don't know why I am afraid I have the virus, but the fear will not go away.

It will take you realizing that you are suffering from OCD about HIV and not HIV itself. Your unwillingness to accept your negative status and your repetitive testing will not end until you have your OCD treated by medical professionals.

HIV test results are hard to deny. If it says you don't have it - especially after three tests - then I can pretty much promise you that you don't have the virus. And first of all, that is a great great thing!
As far as your obsessing over it, I would ask you why you are so adamant about finding out that you DO have it? Goodness knows nobody ever WANTS to get it, so there has to be some other reason. Do you feel that you display all of the symptoms? Is this the only disease you've ever thought you had? My thoughts lean a bit toward Hypochondria when those questions come to mind, but it could easily be other things.
If you know a friend or loved one who has or has recently been diagnosed with this disease, maybe there is a connection there.
With no intent to insult you, by any means, I would simply suggest seeing a therapist about it. They could bring up some questions that could quickly give you the answer to your worries regarding the virus. You yourself used the word "obsess", so that would be my first suggested action for you to take.
With all that said, I am glad that you are healthy though. Good luck. :o)

You need to talk to a mental health practitioner. You're right in that it is an obsession. With three negative tests, and you don't participate in high risk activities, the chances of you having the virus are slim to none.
As obsessions do, this will only get worse until you talk to someone and decide what is the best course for you to follow. You cannot cure this on your own, please talk to a professional.
Good luck

Just Believe it or your gonna keep getting tested.
Its 99.999 percent accurate I know Ive been their
my ex Husband was a drug addict and premiscuous
I took a swab test another that was rapid three day test I paid 500 dollars for and another in the emergancy room.
I wasn't satisfied untill I got my head together and
finally realized I'm ok.I use to call the aids Hotlines
they said its common. And as for symptoms you think it
you have it it(symptoms not disease) all started when I had nightsweats.
your ok you have a better chance of getting hit by a train
than testing false negative.
ADDED-Your Defanatly negative if your a virgin and no blood tranfusions get on with your life or see a counselor.

Ok, if you haven't done much, then there's no risk. Also, three tests all coming back negative should tell you something. You just have to think possitive and take things one day at a time; whatever happens, it'll all work out in the end. Do you have any known symptoms? Can you provide more information?

Probably over time, and over the course of a few more tests, you will stop obsessing. Doing a little research on the disease may help you. Make sure that your tests are certified and reliable. Just calm down, learn more about the disease, and let time pass.

It will take the test being positive for you to be satisfied, that's what it will take.
Go volunteer at an aids/HIV hospice. That should make you relieved and grateful you don't participate in high risk activities and don't have the HIV virus.
It's time for you to do a reality check.

Hi.it sounds like you have an obsession and you need to go to your G.P. and get help to stop it or you will end up getting to the stage where you will be imagining everything you touch.eat, smell and drink will be giving you aids ..If you are not doing anything to get aids and all the tests are clear then you DO NOT HAVE AIDS .

What makes you think you have HIV?
The only way to stop obsessing about it is to obsess about something that is positive and uplighting...obsess about helping others (say helping out at an AIDS Charity) instead of making up stories in your own head to scare yourself

I guess finally getting a positive test might get you to stop obsessing.
Seems that you have developed your "own truth" and will not be satisfied until you can make it everyone elses truth.
Not a good thing, but seems to be what you are really wanting.
