I am going to be babysitting a 2 yr old girl starting tommorow, 3 days a week, from 530am until 5 pm. I am charging 50 dollars a week, which includes, breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Im not tryin to make a big profit from this, i know the family and my son loves to play with her, so its kinda like a playmate for him, as well. I thought it was a fair price, but all my friends and family think im crazy for charging so little. Is that really cheap?

Well the food is probably around 25-30 dollars for the 3x a week and that means you making a small profit but the biggest profit is your child is excelling in their social skills and has a friend to play with giving you a break once in awhile as kids with no friends want mommy and daddy 24/7 to pay all their attention to and play with.
It sounds like both partys are gaining here and if you like what your doing and enjoy the little girl then theres no problem.

Yes it's cheap. But you have to think about your specific situation and decide if it is fair. Are you doing this for the money? Are you doing this to help out a friend? Are you doing this so your child can have a playmate? As long as you think it is fair and you aren't spending more money on this child than you are earning, I'd say it's cool. It gives you some extra cash and your child gets to play with a friend and enhance his social skills. As long as you are aware of the work it will require and are OK with the compensation, then do it. The people who are telling you to raise the price are probably just worried that you are/will be taken advantage of.

lets see a 2 yr old and you are providing all food i would say 100 a week
did you realize that's 12 hrs a day at 2 dollars an hour which is not enough that's still 72 dollars
i know your not trying to make a profit just try to make it worth it to have a 2 yr old in your house for 12 hours a day
i've done this and it was only once a week and that was they only time they saw each other
it was great for a while but after a few weeks they started to get tired of each other and started fighting alot
they were also 2

I would charge $100 a week whether you need the money or not. Otherwise those people are really taking advantage of you. Being a sahm is not easy and adding another kid for twelve hours a day, three days a week is a lot!

Think of it this way, you're putting in 37.5 hours for 50 dollars. It's $1.33 an hour. I'd say that's very little. But from the sound of it you're doing it more as a favor rather than a job. Just keep in mind it is a lot of work caring for a young child. Don't overwork yourself for nothing.

Holy Cow is that ever cheap! For my son it is $145/week 6-6pm includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. If I am late at all they charge 15$/minute! Even if I have a day off and he stays home I still have to pay the entire amount. It is one thing to be kind and make it affordable and another to be taken advantage of. I would speak to parents and charge at least $$$75-100/week!!!

OMG, you can babysit for me anytime at that price!! I pay my sitter $8.00 an hour so she makes almost $50 when my husband and I go out for the night. And you are starting at 5:30AM?!?!?!? If you want to be "nice" , you can still charge $5.00 an hour and thats still cheap.

My sis in law does in home daycare & she chareges $2.50 an hour per child. $3 an hour if she has to change diapers. She provides the food. Even if you don't need the money, this is still your time and your money for food. So yeah, you're doing it pretty cheap.

It is all about being reasonable. Ask yourself are you reasonable? consider your situation, had you not taken this job what would do? what were you doing before, and how much did you make? people say a whole lot of things, if you put a meter at people's mouth they wouldn't talk, believe me. It all about being reasonable and your judgment.
Good Luck

I think that is way to cheap. My son is in dayhome and the provider makes $4.35/hr for each kid. I know you aren't running a dayhome but I just thought I would let you know.
