It all depends on what the discharge was for, and how severe the medical problem. If for instance you have bad knees, and the day-to-day army life tears them up and force you out, you still may be qualified to do the National Guard because you are not going on a day-to-day basis, and when you deploy and come back, you can rest it up again like if you were a civilian.

If you can get the medical waiver, you will be ok. They are like magic. As far as getting the medical waiver.. like I said, it all depends on the severity of what gets you discharged, and also how you present it to the doctor. Appearance is everything. If you have an interview with the doctor, appear confident that you are fit for duty.

It depends if your medical condition was resolved or not.

And I think if you got the right recruiter then you can probably make it in. Shoot, in my unit I have a person that has got caught shoplifting several times and they still let them in and another guy that never paid his child support and has several DUI's and they still let them in. I had one guy that walked around with a cane in my unit and he got a promotion last year.

You will see in the National Guard, it is not what you know but who you know. If you know the right people then it is no problem to get in.
