He was giving an example of how one should pray, not ordering people to say that particular prayer over and over.
He specifically disapproved of the type of repetition used in rosaries. Also, rosaries are a Pagan thing, the beads representing the labia of the Goddess. Catholicism if full of Pagan ritual and imagery because at some point they realized it was easier and more profitable to convert Pagans than to murder them. Old Goddesses and gods were incorporated as saints or angels, holy day traditions redefined in Christian terms, chuches built on sites sacred to Pagans, etc.

Jesus did not tell his disciples to pray the exact words he said, but he said "pray LIKE this". The form of the Lords prayer was:
1. Recognise God as God, and focus on Him
2. To ask for any needs
3. To ask forgiveness of any wrongdoing or offence
4. To ask for protection for safety and from evil
5. Again to recognise God
We are not supposed to vainly repeat our prayers, if you look up Matt ch6, you see the pattern.

I don't think that it was meant as a prayer to be said every time you pray.
I think that it is to be used as a guidline to form your own personal prayers. Think of it as a blueprint.
But who really cares. From what I have seen on Yahoo answers most people with religious questions really aren't wanting to know the answers. The questions are double edged swords that they are using to try and trip people up.

It was an example to pray. It was not meant to be a prayer that would be repeated the same way every time you pray. It was just an example of how you should pray for yourself, for others, for God's will -- for a variety of things. Prayer should be about more than "please forgive me" and "please give me." It should involve all aspects of your life.
