my boyfriend is allergic to milk and his birthday is next Monday and I want to make him something delicious but I am drawing a blank on anything tasty

do you have any ideas or recipes? they don't have to be dairy free but they can't have dairy things like buttermilk or milk chocolate, pretty much other things (butter, cream cheese, sour cream, chocolate chips) I have alternatives for. thanks!

he's not lactose intolerant, he's allergic to milk... totally different. Lactose intolerant people can still have milk things sometimes or limited amounts of milk things and be fine... a trace amount of milk in my boyfriend's food sends him to the hospital

Lactose free things contain whey, what my boyfriend is allergic to, aka milk protein. Lactose free is just free of... lactose.

Non-Dairy Chocolate Cake

This is a very moist chocolate cake. I've also known it to be called Wacky Cake or Crazy Cake. This is very easy one dish and easy clean up. Enjoy!

16-20 servings 45 min 15 min prep

3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
6 tablespoons cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vinegar
3/4 cup canola oil (almost any kind of cooking oil will do)
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups water

Sift first 5 ingredients together in an ungreased 9x13-inch pan.
Make 3 wells and in each hole place the next 3 ingredients.
Pour 2 cups of water over top mix with a fork or wire whisk.
Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar

I'm thinking that your boyfriend is in the market for something from the Vegan bakery counter at Whole Foods Market! If you have one near you, they have an entire list of dairy free products, which include baker items. If not, then look at perhaps making some of your favorite things using dairy substitutes, such as IMO for sour cream or rice milk or soy milk for cow's milk etc. You might also want to consider an old fashioned rustic apple and pear tart with Lactose Free vanilla ice cream (made by Breyers).
