Not again!
I've added a link at the end to the Aviation Week flight test, it's informative and a good read. There's a report on the first commercial flight too, though he describes an experience that I think few will recognize in 20 years.
The A380 carries a lot more and for much better per passanger fuel economy, it also has more space for the passangers and much better crew facilities. The cockpit can have space for three observers or crew rest areas for a spare flight crew. The avionics are the latest spec with large multi function displays. Despite being much large than the 747 the A380 actually lands quite slowly and even at 800,000 pounds touches down at arond 120kts, so it can use exactly the same runway lengths as the 747. The wheelbase is shorter than the than the A340 so it's easy to manoeuver on the ground, this is assisted by having a camera down by the nose wheel, so it's easy to follow taxi ways precisely. It's just a much more modern aircraft and all the independant reviews have said it's a pilots aircraft and a complete doll to fly.
The more fair technological comparison would be with the 787, but that's a smaller aircraft. We'll have to see how the 747-800 does, that would be the competitor for the A380 as the A350 is for the 787.
In the end the 787/A350 class may outlive the A380/747-800 simply because rising fuel prices may discourage many people from flying and remove the need for the big jets, though I hope the world doesn't turn out that way.

747.
For those that complain the 747 is crowded, that's an unfair comparison. The 747 has been in service for 30 years. Some of those older planes have the old seats and are very crowded. If you look at interior shots of the new 747-8, they're every bit as roomy as an A380.
At this point the 380 is an unproven aircraft. It's big, but it's brand new, so let's see how they perform in the long run.

Better how? From an Airline or passenger point of view?
From an airline's the larger passenger volume of the A380 allows for more fares at a lower operating cost.
For passengers, the luxery and thrill of flying in a luxery liner and more spacious interior gives a more comfortable and less tiring flight.
However, whether the aircraft is decked out for luxery is up to the airline. Some may choose to follow the example of the 747 and make it a larger flying sardine can.
Personally i prefer the 747 because it is the original Jumbo Jet and will always be. It cant be replaced by any imitations.

this is open for debate but if you want to get really technical
then go back to the mid 80's and an aircraft designed by mcdonnell douglas called th MD-12. 2 decks, 4 engines
and gee the a-380 looks just like it but it will never last nowhere near as long as any mcdonnell douglas planes.
the dc-3 is still flying and it first flew in 1935! with that said
get the 747. better built, mechanic all over the world that can fix it.

From a passenger point of view, the 747 sucks really bad in comparison to an A380. The A380 is just better hands down in space, cabin quietness and everything else.

This question has no answear, only opinions. If you mean looks wise then 747 hands down. If you mean more modern then A380 hands down. If you mean faster 747 hands down. More spacious, A380 hands down. More options to land then 747 hands down. More quiet, A380 hands down. More expensive to fly on? Well that last one depends on how full the flight is, if its not that full an A380 flight will cost oooooddles. Not to mention if you just have to fly First Class on the A380 be prepared to shell out over $8000.
