I have a toshiba it handles up to 1080p now I need a dvd player should I get 1080p or 1080i thanks luis?

Get an HD player (HD DVD or Blu Ray).

Your TV can upconvert standard DVDs as good as any upconverting DVD player.

If your television is 50in or larger, get the 1080p player, otherwise you'll be wasting resolution (and money) unless you sit closer that 4 1/2 feet from your television.

Progressive is always going to be better because of its format, but if your television is smaller than 50in you won't be able to resolve enough detail to notice a difference, so save your money.
