How can I play songs that are hard for me? I practice a lot, but everybody else is better than me. I'm playing Hayden te Deum, Air for strings and Vivaldi. Please help!

The cello is considered the most difficult western instrument to play well. Like all stringed instruments and woodwinds, the most important thing is to play in tune and with good tone. It would be better for you to be studying pieces which are easier to play that would enable you to concentrate on your intonation.... they would sound better and you would get pleasure from them. Practicing the cello is not like practicing typing. It doesn't matter if you practice many hours, if you are playing out of tune the whole time. Ask your teacher if he/she can help you improve your ear. The technical abilities will come easily later with more practice, but you might be better off playing some simpler things well.

Apocalyptica is a cello trio that does nothing but heavy metal. Check them out. Their music features elements from classical music and neo-classical metal, to symphonic metal and thrash metal.
