Born again is a figurative word. It means your mind has changed to think like Christ. It is not meant to be taken literally although I know some who have.

no. born again means "born from above"; it is not speaking about the flesh, but the spiritual:

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3)

"a born again Christian is fed by the word of god"

Why would you eat God's words? Did he write them on a slice of cheese?

a born again Christian is fed by the word of god, not through an umbilical chord. That belief would fit snugly into the world that you live in. Physical sustenance is only half of the story. You believe it is all of it.
