I know there are a few Organizations for the Handicaped, this will just be another one to get the word out there because quite frankly many people are still not aware of those individuals or they just don't care to be.

There is an excellent resource - the Foundation Center - which has a simple, but comprehensive guide to starting and funding a nonprofit organization. This online tutorial describes 12 tasks you will need to accomplish as part of the process of establishing a nonprofit organization:

Create the organization. It helps if you can rope a lawyer into joining and providing his services for free, or at least at a low rate.

Once you have a number of members, incorporate as a not-for-profit corporation under your state's laws. Generally, you need at least 3 incorporators, and a statement in your corporate charter that says no profits may inure to any incorporator or officer, and that if the corporation is dissolved, the net assets after paying bills are to be donated to a charity.

Then fill out the forms with the IRS to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity.

A little more info would be helpful. What is the purpose of the organization? Will it qualify to be a 501(c)3 charity? Is it to be short term, or exist indefinitely?
