depends on the hardness of the mashed potato, if it is cold or warm, if there is any object INSIDE the potato that could scratch or damage the eye... and, how long you leave the potato IN your eye and how fast the potatoe was traveling when it HIT your eye. Actually a regular spoonful of mashed potato should NOT be harmful to the eye. Just wash it out with cold water.

Only if something hard and sharp would pierce your eye to damage it or if the force would detach the retina. I would suggest when you eat mashed potatoes in a restaurant with rowdy people, that you wear goggles to protect your eyes.

any blunt trauma can be severe enough to cause blindness. it would probably have to be a **** load of mashed potatoes. also, if a foreign object is in your eye and never removed, that could lead to blindness.

If the mash potatoes are hot or if there's a lot of spices or salt in it, it's not excluded!
