stay alert no matter what shift you work, and keep good report logs. make sure they have a radio (walkie talkie) for you if you do rounds, so you can get backup if there's any 'situation'. Be honest, and always work as if you're being watched, because you might be. Never get caught by patrol sleeping on the job, and don't turn the radio off.
And the usual for any job, be on time, be available for extra shifts, make sure your uniform is pressed and clean, etc.

Many people worry that they will be looked down upon if they become a security officer or that they will be considered rent-a-cops. However, security officers are not rent-a-cops. They are simply security officers. Many are very professional, and some actually earn more money than some police officers. If you want to become a security officer, keep a mindset that you will be a professional. Plan on being well dressed, well groomed, well spoken, and knowledgeable. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Do your job with enthusiasm. Always be mindful of officer safety. Knowing what is and what is not your responsibility and what authority you have and what authority you don't have is one of the most important things understand if you want to become a security officer.
