First you have to be more spacific to which archipelage you are refuring to. Because archipelago mean a large group or chain of island and also any large body of water with many islands. so there for
- There are a group of island that is part of the Archipelago Sea which is a part of the Baltic Sea between the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland, within Finnish territorial waters. It is the largest archipelago in the world by the number of islands, although the islands tend to be very small and clustered in a small area. also, The Archipelago Sea has a very large number of islands. The exact number of islands depends on the definition of the term "island", as the sizes of the pieces of dry land vary from small rocks peeking out of the water to large islands with several villages or even a small town. Common estimates vary between 20,000 and 50,000. (In comparison, the estimates on the number of islands in Indonesia range between 13,000 and 18,000 also know as the Malay Archipelago) and it is part of the Atlantic Ocean.
- The Malay Archipelago is a vast archipelago located between mainland Southeastern Asia (Indochina) and Australia. Straddling the Indian and Pacific Oceans, this group of some 20,000 islands, the world's largest archipelago by area, constitutes the territories of Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah along with the Federal Territory of Labuan, East Timor, and most of Papua New Guinea.
- The Mergui Archipelago (also Myeik Archipelago) is an archipelago in far southern Myanmar (Burma). It consists of more than 800 islands, varying in size from very small to hundreds of square kilometres, all lying in the Andaman Sea off the western shore of the Malay Peninsula near its landward (northern) end where it joins the rest of Indochina and is part of the Indian Ocean.
- French Polynesia (French: Polynésie française, Tahitian: Pōrīnetia Farāni) is a French overseas collectivity in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is made up of several groups of Polynesian islands, the most famous island being Tahiti in the Society Islands group, which is also the most populous island and the seat of the capital of the territory (Papeete).
Only to name a few but the one I think your talking about is the Malay Archipelago and that stradles the Indian and Pacific Oceans. So I would say both depending on which island your on. The one closer to the Indian Ocean or Pacific Ocean.
