The last time I did it, I had to chop it off.

Do not dye your hair two days in row. The chemical in the dye is extremely bad for your hair. This will cause your hair to dry out and look very healthy. So wait a couple days or a week then try it again.

No it should be ok. I also had to cut all my hair off once. However this happened after dying it 3 times with bleach and peroxide (I was trying to dye my dyed black hair back to blonde). Dying it only one shade lighter will be fine, it is only when you are using bleach and dying your hair numerous shades lighter that it is a real problem. At worst your hair might be a little dry to begin with. You have nothing to worry about.
Alternative ideas if your worried: let it grow out a bit and it will look significantly lighter. Buy "sun in" which is a "natural" hair lightener that you spray in your hair each day, and it will lighten it gradually. Hair dye remover will also work, however you will have to dye it a third time with the colour you want. Good luck.

Yes, it is bad to dye your hair in two days in a row or just dying it a lot because it kills your cells in your hail since there is a lot of chemicals in the bottle.Just leave the color and let it fade! Maybe someone tomorrow will say "Wow, you hair looks very good!" I hope that helps!! =)

YES, I'm a dude so you might not think i know this stuff but you shouldn't mix 2 chemicals together in your head it will start to fall out and it will turn bad. so just wait until like a week in a half then wash hair then put new dye. And no I'm not gay. Good Luck!

RE:

I have naturally thick dark brown hair (which has been highlighted and dyed many times). Last night I dyed my hair a soft black color from garnier nutrisse called "Sweet Cola." The color turned out darker than I had expected, and I was considering dying it one shade lighter to dark...

Hi, you might be able to remove some of the excess color by washing your hair with dish soap or Prell shampoo. Then condition it really well. This is actually done by a beautician I know. Maybe you'll need to wash it like this a few times, but it might lighten it up enough so you like it and won't need to re-dye your hair.
If it's still too dark after that, you could try one of the haircolors made especially for dark hair to lighten it up a little more, but doing the dish soap or Prell treatment first might make it work better. Good luck, let us know what you decide to do!

It isn't good, but I've done it and there are no long term "bad side affects"--go ahead and dye it again if you like. I dyed my hair very dark ,and didn't like it. I went to the store and bought dye romover (which made me look ridiculous, but it lightened my hair). After my hair was lighter, I went back to the store, purchased more dark hair dye, and dyed it that night. My hair was fine.

Nah, I'm sure it will be fine.
I've done that before and I still have extremely healthy hair.
Just make sure to use a less-harsh form of hair-dye, maybe like Natural Instincts.
~Good luck!

it won't damage your hair too much
but it won't come out since you have such a dark color right now
but it you really want to do it quick then mix about a teaspoon of baking soda in which a little bit of shampoo and wash your hair out with that and some color should wash out
then wait a day and dye it the lighter color

Tint will not lift tint! I just had my hair done, the girl put a burgundy red in it & what i wanted was a strawberry blonde, i am so upset when i look in the mirror. i asked my sister who has been a beautician for 25 yrs. -she said you can go to a beauty supply house like sallys and buy a color stripper. It does say right on the box your hair will turn red/orange or gold, but then you can apply a new color and it will take. I have my box of stripper but i am afraid to use it.
