your questions are always the same, like "why do Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints", "why do Catholics pray to graven images", "why do Catholics call your priests father", so on and so forth.

you keep on asking the same questions over and over despite all of the explanations and clarifications that we Catholics provide.

is it possible the case is not because you can't understand but simply because you DON'T WANT to understand?

if you don't want to understand it, therefore you have no understanding of it, it only means you have no idea what you're protesting against. you're only showing your close-mindedness and biases.

hello tur b,
although i have disagreed from time to time with you,i would like to echo your sentiments.
the bible says...Pro 6:16 These six things the LORD hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
Pro 6:17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
Pro 6:18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,

Pro 6:19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

the last one really sticks out alot when i read some of the posts here.
these wise words should serve as a good lesson to all who are claiming to be a good christian.

i place myself at the top of the list as one who has been guilty of every single one of these things.
may god bless you!

Some don't want to understand the Catholic teachings (and we see some answers here from those whose interest is in demonizing original Christianity), but some do want to understand. Those who ask familiar questions about prayer to Mary, prayer to graven images, and calling priests "father" are probably trying to get answers.

As a Catholic, I see it as a duty to continue to provide clear, original answers addressing the concern of the questioner, as long as it is clear that the questioner is asking in sincerity. It is not helpful for Catholic posters to bawl out questioners or judge their motives.

For example, many Protestants do not understand that Catholics do not pray to Mary in the modern sense of the word pray, which is to worship and adore God alone. Catholics who try to explain why we "pray" to Mary in the archaic sense of the word are not providing very helpful witness. I can understand why Protestants continue to ask this question.

The answer is no, we don't pray to Mary. However, we ask Mary to pray for us, in the same way I would ask you to pray for me. The difference is that Catholics believe Jesus' teachings that the saints are alive with him. This is called "the communion of the saints."

Cheers,
Bruce

Once again, a Protestant assumes that we Catholics "blindly" follow the doctrines of our church. How is it that we never get credit from y'all for knowing what our Church teaches and why we believe what we do? Believe this or not, there are a lot of us converts who have studied our Faith in depth, which is why we made the choice to become Catholic in the first place.

But I bet if we did the old switcheroo and asked, "Why do you Protestants blindly follow the (whatever the basis of your doctrine is: Larger Catechism, Statement of Fundamental Truths, etc.,)?", the fertilizer would hit the fan. Of course *you* don't follow anything blindly, despite the fact that some of us Catholics probably know more about your doctrines and how they were derived than you do.

So there you have it, friends -- yet another sterling example of Protestant double standards.

Definitely so in many cases.

If most Funda.prots. wanted to know what the catholic Church teaches they would ask catholic authorities and they would read the Catechism of the catholic Church from cover to cover frequently and they would look up all the passages that Catholics give them from Scripture but so few do.

Why?
Ego
fear
hate
whatever and "whyever" the 'cultivated ignorance ' is not rooted in love or finding the truth or serving the Lord of Truth and Love.

You will notice a huge influx of these questions after they get out of church on Sunday.
Makes me wonder if they have time to do anything else besides bash other religions during their service.

I would wonder why my church was lying to me about other faiths and why they seem so threatened by different beliefs.

They continue to get true answers backed with facts, but always give the BA nod to the genius who writes "Catholics are not real Christians". Then they ask the question over and over again. So, I don't think it's the truth or real knowledge they are after.

ya, they say they understand. Ya right!! I also am a convert to catholism. I believe what the church teaches about the real pressence of Jesus in the Eucharist, for that reason alone I would NEVER LEAVE MY CHURCH BECUZ IT IS THE TRUTH.

That is exactly the case. They are not here to learn - they are here to bash because they need some way to justify their own faith, becaue ALL Christians religions, whether they want to admit it or not, sprang from Catholicism. And that being the case, they feel the need to "prove" us wrong in order for them to be "right."

Instead of concentrating on our similarities, as Catholics would prefer to do, they prefer to concentrate on the differences in worship and draw their own conclusions without heeding the FACTS.

Just plain UN Christian-like.

The bible says to be wise concerning what's good and innocent concerning what is evil. Why would we want to understand how to get into bondage and why that is necessary when we are free? So I guess in a way you are right we don't want to understand how come we have to go into bondage because we don't believe that! how do you explain the thousands upon MILLIONS of people the last hundreds of years that believe God, get saved, asked Jesus in their heart, gave their money and lives away for Jesus .......got filled with his spirit, preached his word and proclaimed his gospel...........all without the help or assistance of the Catholic church? would you dare say that's of the devil and not God.????????? I certainly hope not! That would be a very scary thing to say and might even Jeopardize your soul! Jesus came to set the captives free, to destroy the works of satan and set at liberty those who are bruised. And we are not to become the slaves of men. We give honor where honor is due. I honor the Catholic church for all the welfare programs and soup kitchens, hospitals that were built and the poor that get fed because of them (mostly Nuns) .......I think there are some saintly people who are currently in the Catholic church but there are corrupted parts of the Catholic church throughout history that is practically unredeemable.

I say this knowing that I will stand before God someday and explain my words to him personally. What about you???
Do you actually know him? Jesus I mean? He wants you to know him! He is coming for a bride that KNOWS HIM!!!!!!!!!

Catholics don't explain, don't clarify, and they have had all the chances in the world. Many people, not just Christians, believe that Catholics are lying with their answers, which they find so pathetically inadequate, nobody can believe them. So to ask is to help, even if help is not wanted.

Catholicism simply cannot survive on the 'net without trickery, ad hom. and propaganda, and we see plenty of that here many times a day. 'Bible-fundies' is a very good case in point. The only way for Catholicism to 'convince' is through gaudy processions, candles, echoey music, incense, etc.; 'smells and bells', iow. It cannot convince otherwise, now that there are no soldiers 'persuading' the masses as used to be the case. Just think about it- what truth can there be in a religion that had to be spread by violent threat and infant baptism?

I do understand it, dear one, that is why I attend a non-denominational fellowship. I have never read anywhere in God's Word where we're told to pray to Mary or other saints. To the contrary, we are to pray to Christ who is our ONLY mediator.

That alone is enough evidence to keep me away from the Catholic religion. I much prefer a simple, close relationship with Jesus. More of Him, less of "churchianity."

God bless!
