I am looking for a free product, that will allow me to convert AVI files to a DVD for use in a DVD player. If the converter does not burn, then a suggested burner would be most helpful.

The quickest, best converter with the least amount of hassles is WinAvi Video Converter. I've been using it for years with no problems and it can turn 1 hour of avi into DVD in about 15-18 mins on my comp

you should use a "any DVD" its better for DVD and subtitle support .
if you use a "Nero" or "clone", its not helpful complete.
in the last you can go to google search and type " the best DVD program to burn and convert"
the convert have a lot of thing not just to DVD or avi, its some for many
you miss the " divx " files its better than DVD or avi in my opinion
bye
