ok, a lot of people answering this question gave me stupid answers.

I know communion wine is wine that is blessed with holy water and is served during eucharest an represents the blood of christ.

Yadda yadda.

What I was asking is if communion wine is specific. Does it come from any specific grape or manufacturer or can a priest just buy a $5.99 jug of carlo rossi and use that?

It's just generic wine that's used in the ceremony. I know my church bought their wine from the local grocery store.

I once offered to buy communion wine for my Church (Orthodox), and the priest wanted kosher wine made from concord grapes.
He preferred a certain wine that is made in Israel, but it was not available.

I suspect that there is not a 'hard' rule about this, but if a bishop insists on a specific wine, then that's what it has to be in his jurisdiction.

I have no idea about the Catholic's requirements.

Depends upon the local tradition. Most Lutherans in the midwest use Mogan David. Here in the UK, they use Port. That was quite a shock and took a bit of getting used to.

In most protestant churches it is merely Welche's Grape Juice. I do not know about the Catholics. I know some churches us fermented wine but most do not.
