The Chiltern Hills are one of the most beautiful areas of Southern England along with the South Downs, the Surrey Hills and parts of Wiltshire. The Chilterns are chalk downland covered in beautiful Beechwoods; the highest point Coombe Hill is 852 feet high and is near Wendover in Buckinghamshire; nearby are the hamlets of Dunsmore and Little Hampden reached along beautiful footpaths through the woods. Another beautiful part of the Chilterns is the area north
Henley on Thames encompassing the Warburg Nature Reserve and villages such as Stonor and Frieth and the countryside around them. The Chilterns are a wonderful area for hikers as they are traversed by countless well signed footpaths including a section of the national trail 'The Ridgeway' that runs from Ivinghoe Beacon at the northern tip of the Chilterns to near Avebury in Wiltshire passing through a large area of the Chilterns on the way. The best maps for hikers would be Ordnance Survey Landranger Maps sheets 165 Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard and 175 Reading and Windsor which between them cover most of the Chilterns and show all public footpaths. Tring Station 40 minutes from London Euston, Wendover 47 minutes from London Marylebone and Henley on Thames 60 minutes from London Paddington all have frequent train services and would be excellent places to start your walk/hike.

NO!!! I live in a tiny Cornish village called Lerryn, It is actually the inspiration for "The wind in the Willows " and is absolutely gorgeous. Right now the tree's in the huge wood near my home are all oranges, browns, and golds, and the views over the river are breathtaking. There are breathtaking views from many places in Cornwall.
