I have just been terminated from my job and I am in the process of relocating to another state. Do I have to apply for unemployment in the state I live in or do I apply in the state I'm moving to?

Aiesha,
u need to apply for unemployment in the state of the job. since u are moving out of state u may not qualify. the state u are moving to probably will not pay u since u have not paid in to their systems.
Unemployment is a state program.

may i suggest a reading of '48 days to work u love' d.miller . a good book for going forward and plenty of fresh reference material.

the other one is 'total money make over' d.ramsey helps our folks retain their cash.
spending less and getting more value from their paychecks.

our associates have a mandatory read of the books.

You'd apply in the state you are living in at the time of the application. They'll handle contacting the other state if your work was in a different state. Not sure what you mean by "in the process of moving". If the truck is being loaded now and you'll be in the new state next week, then apply in the new state. If you are just planning to move, then apply where you live now.

You wouldn't get more if you move to a state that makes higher payments - your payments would be based on the rules in the state where you worked, and that's the state that would actually pay your benefits.

Apply where you are looking for a job and let it contact your old state. Your benefits will be charged against your former employer's account there.

You can do either. I would check to see which state will pay more benifets and apply there.
