tonight, i have had a child knocking on my door and running off, swearing at me and my children, throwing things at my window and generally being a nuisance. never seen this child before, so what i did was this, i hid in my porchway, and waited for her to come into my garden again, as soon as she did, i stepped forth and drenched her with a bucket of icy cold water! my question is, was i out of line? bearing in mind i didnt touch her, and she was on my property.

ok, i'm in the uk, and the parents have just been, as i expected, however once they realised what their little "darling" had been doing, i got an apology, turns out, she'd been doing it all day to other people! nice child eh?!

bliss kiss, a smack in the mouth? i'm afraid you would of got one back for allowing your child to go along behaving like that and expecting no consequences! at least her parents were responsible when it was brought to their attention, and as for asking where she lived, considering politely asking her to move was met with a barrage of swear words, i think it unlikely she would of taken me to her parents dont you?!

Well, I would have made the water a little bit warmer than icy, but not much!!
Good on you! Too man people these days are scared of dealing with situations like this in case they get accused of something, or in case the parents are every bit as bad as the child and want trouble!
She got what she deserved, and I bet she won't be back!! lol

LOL. Perfect.
I think you did exactly the right thing, and it's good to see her parents taking the responsibility for it too.
A quick note to our US cousins...the police wouldn't even give you time of day in the UK for this. You're lucky if they come when you're burgled!
Reminds me of a story I heard where a guy rang the police to tell them there were burglars raiding his shed at that very moment. The police said they had no-one available.
Five minutes later he rang again and told the police it was OK because he'd shot them all. In under 2 minutes the police arrived and arrested the culprits.
Confused, an officer said "I thought you'd shot them?". The shed owner replied "I thought you had no-one available."

I would have put on a scary halloween Mask with fake blood dripping and scared the crap out of her. Maybe that would have taught her not to do that again. She deserved it, but now she is going to go home to mommy and cry about it, then mom is going to come over and talk to you about it, then the whole fiasco drama may or may not happen. Tell her mom that she was on your property, and what she had done on your property. She seriously has issues. If she comes around again call the cops.

Haha! I think that was a great thing to do! Doubt she'll stop by your house to do it again! be preparde for the odd egg on your windows though cos she may be plotting her revenge!

Make sure you always have another bucket of water at the ready for the next time she tries something!

Your actions were correct. That child will never bother you again, whereas if you had called the police, nothing would have happened. Does anyone really think that the kid is afraid of the authorities?.

Marvellous!! Are you called "crazymental" in real life?! Give the little buggers a trick or treat of their own. And start doing the same with any politicians, Jehovah's witness and double-glazing salesmen who knock at your door. You should submit this as a tip to the Consumer Association...

Good for you, you got the message across in a way that she understood!
Asking nicely was not going to work in this case was it?
As for any critics you may have it was better than shouting and swearing back at her wasn't it?!

I have 3 kids and if one of them came home soaking wet after doing what this cjild did I would of said They got what they deserved!

I think it's kind of hysterical. We did that to our neighbors one time. My brother and I were playing on our front deck and the neighbor boys kept going underneath it and scaring us. So what did my mother do? Come outside with cups of water and dump it on them. The kid was being rude to you and your family. You didn't harm them or yell at them, just probably gave them a good shock.

Lol, you were out of line a bit. What you should do, next time she continue to do that, confront her, and yell at her, or tell her parents, if that doesn't help, then call the police, they'll handle it.

Yes you did step out of line. You should have called the authorities and filed a harrassment charge. They would have dealt with the child (and scared them just as much as you did) and then turned the child over to the parents. The child needed to be dealt with no doubt about that, however the way you went about it, the parents of that child could file harrassment charges against YOU, even though it was on your property. You have to be careful with these kind of things.
