Well, I was a Catholic for years, so I will answer. No Catholic I have ever met has believed this and it was never something we were taught at church.
It seems that many of the leaders in the Baptist and Protestant churches are spreading lies about Catholicism to their congregations. If I were you, I would ask "why is my church lying to me?".

No where in the Bible does it say Catholics are the only ones going to Heaven (I'm assuming, being a Baptist, that you use the Bible as your main reference point and not what someone else told you). It also doesnt specify what church you should be a part of in order to get to heaven and there is a reason ....because it is irrelevant. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that NO ONE can boast."
In essence its harder to maintain one's facade of 'leading a good life' or leading a 'Catholic (or Baptist) lifestyle' than it is to just simply be a person who acknowledges that they are imperfect and in need of a relationship with Christ. Because you are not doing through your power (which is obviously not enough) but through faith in Christ. where you go to church (or how many 'good works' you try to do) is secondary and ultimately irrelevant. I think no matter what denomination or title is in on that church sign, you'd do yourself a world of good to explore the contexts of what that Preacher is preaching and research his sermons yourself (by reading it for yourself in the Bible.) good luck to you!

No, I was never taught that only Catholics go to heaven. If I had, I would've been very upset as a child since my dad was not Catholic. I was never taught that I couldn't go to the church of another religion, either. I went to a few of my friends' churches when I was a kid, and I've sung at several non-Catholic services through the years.

Well they are the original Christians, and before you guys they were saying the same thing you can't get saved without being part of Jesus church. They believe they are Jesus church, they're basically saying the same thing as you guys. I find that quite funny, as before I became an atheist I attended a Baptist church, and it wasn't as "all Christians no matter denomination go to heaven" as the kind of church you attend. Here's a star.

catholic church was th very first church. than everyone left it for their different beliefs. I dont think everyone who isnt catholic goes to hell. May sound strange but ive heard people say things like, catholics go to hell. it makes me sick when people judge who don't know the truth
And yes we are not allowed to go to any other churches because they teach Christianity the wrong way. Lutherans dont kneel, since they rebelled and the all dont accept purgatory which is clearly mentioned in the bible in the book of Maccabees. I could go on and on but im tired =)

No.
The Catholic Church teaches that Non-Catholic Christians go to heaven:
Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.
Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.
All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 819: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.htm#819
+ Catholics can visit non-Catholic churches especially to support family and friends during marriages and funerals.
With love in Christ.

pangloss is right, the question you should be asking is why your church lie to you.

Funny, on R&S most of the people who say that aren't Catholics. They even say that Catholics aren't Christians...
As a matter of fact if you read those answers it seems that every denomination is saying that if you don't believe like they do you will go to hell.
Heaven is going to be quite empty.

I don't believe that (the people who think that are the ones who give Christians a bad name). You don't even have to be CHRISTIAN to go to heaven. As long as you live as a nice, caring individual and you do your best to help in your community and to make people's lives better, God will save you.

Some ultra conservative Catholics who are still waiting for the Middle Ages to came back might believe this sort of crap, but the majority, who have both brains and compassion don't believe such narrowminded nonsense.
