You didn't mention age for your baby. However if baby is on solids then oatmeal is a great source of fiber and so are apples. Also ask the doctor specifically how many grams he would recommend. The new metamucil on the market is safe for young kids/older babies and really does mix into just about any liquid/semi-liquid without changing taste or texture. If baby is young and not on solids then I would be considering what is going on with her tummy. If breastfeeding it could be something you are eating that is causing an allergic reaction. If it's formula it could easily be a milk lactose or milk casien allergy.

If your baby is not yet eating solid foods, try adding an extra half ounce of water to her bottles for a couple of days. You can also give her a bottle with 1 oz. prune juice and 5 ozs. water if she's over 4 months.

If your baby is eating solids, go for the green veggies. Green beans (those always did the trick for my son) and peas. Applesauce and peaches help a lot too. Stay away from rice cereal for a couple of days. Do oatmeal or something whole grain instead.

Normally a rounded out diet of plenty of fruits & vegetables will help. Make sure that she's eating the right amount, and not too much of the bread group. Also make sure that she's drinking enough. Milk/formula/juice/breastmilk...whatever it is that she usually drinks. I give my twins apple or white grape juice once a day with their afternoon snack.

The food pyramid was made for good reasons. Just make sure that she's getting enough of the good foods and you'll be fine.

Is she on solids yet? If so give 2 oz of prune juice in 2 oz of warm water. My son was a preemie (Almost 3 months early) and he was constipated A LOT. His doctor told me to do this for him, or you can do the strained prunes/plums

My daughter has same issue. My problem is she won't eat the foods with fiber (cereal and vegetables and such.) What I do is make her "chocolate milk". A special recipe: 1/4 cup prune juice, 1 cup milk, and chocolate syrup to taste. It sounds gross, but it has helped. Good luck.

I had a real hard time to figure out why when my son was an infant, was it happening to us too! I tried everything form different formulas to bringing him to the doctors and saying he isn't normal, what is it? I was told nothing about fiber, but he may be lactose intolerant. I switched to Prosobee formula (soy) and he actually was a lot better! You could ask your pedi about it, and hope thats it. Good luck!

My doctor told me to give my son a 1-2 ounces of pear juice for 2 days...if that doesn't help then call your doctor. You probably need to try a different formula (unless your breastfeeding).

You could also try prune juice but good luck....my two month old gaged every time I would try to give him some. He really likes the pear juice though. Good luck!

Plain canned pumpkin or cooked sweet potato are the best choices as it balances the gut. It works for babies, adults and for your cat of dog as well!
