Wipe up all access. Go over with resolve pet stain. I've also heard that you can use laundry detergent to scrub out.

Ugh - it's the worst, isn't it?

Pick up as much as you can with paper towels (wear your rubber gloves!) and try not to rub it in. Then you'll need a really good enzymatic carpet cleaner. I like Simple Solution. If you can't find it at your pet supply you can order it online. I know that doesn't do you any good at this very moment, but get some for the next time. For the future you'll also want to buy something that will absorb a liquid mess like if there's another episode of vomiting or more diarrhea (and you can bet it'll happen again.) I've used Nature's Miracle Pet Mess Clean Up. It's like sawdust that you pour it on top of the mess and it absorbs most of the liquid (exactly like what they use at Disneyland when someone pukes.) Then you just pick it up and use a cleanser for any staining or leftover liquid. It's a must have for any pet owner, really.

Paper towels, lots of them. And have a garbage can handy.

After the solid matter is up, soak the area with vinegar to neutralize the odor before it sets in, then dab up again.
