Did you check to see if anything was stuck in your GSD's throat? I breed them myself, and a little boy we now have back (owners circumstances changed and brought him back to us,) is about 5 months old and still loves playing with little things if he can get a hold of them. With a blue tongue he may have swallowed something that lodged in his throat. Sorry to here this!

I'm so sorry! You must be devastated!
I've only ever lost one dog that young but it was poisoned! It broke my heart and it was the only time in my life when I didn't have another dog within 3 months of losing one! It took me a while to get over it!
The blue tongue sounds like it could have been the heart but if the post mortem didn't show a cause I dont know what you can do.
If you bought the dog from a breeder it might be a good idea to tell them anyway. I'd want to know if it happened to one I'd bred!

That was terrible for you to find your GSD like that.

I can only guess that he had a blood clot on his brain,a heart attack or he choked on something. Where any of his toys missing?

My GSD died of an heart attack & her tongue was blue.

I also knew a puppy once that was found dead in the garden after chocking on a piece of heather.

If you had a post mortem then I presume they would have found anything stuck in his throat.

It is a sad loss & I know you would like some answers as to why he died but I think you will never know.

Sorry for your loss.

i know how you must be feeling right now. the same thing happened to me last year. i bought two CKCS "cavalier king Charles spaniel" last year. they were sisters, and SO loving. 4 days before Christmas one of them suddenly died, she started fitting(never had a fit before) and died of a heart attack. only 11months old. my vet said the possible causes were poisoning or trauma to the head, but neither of these could have happened.
these would have shown up on your post mortem.
i still miss molly so much and would never wish for this to happen to anybody.
You must remember all the great times you had together, and smile about them!!!

Oh, I'm so sorry, poor you! Maybe it was a congenital defect. If his tongue was blue, maybe it was a heart problem. Thats really sad. Poor thing.

To the dumbo who doesn't know; A GSD, is a German Shepherd Dog!

No, I haven't, but sorry to hear that. When did you get the dog? If it was recently, it may be parvo. Was he up to date on all vaccinations? When was the last vet visit? You could take him to the vet to have them check to see what happened, unless you already did that. That is so sad. Again, I am so sorry for you right now.
