What was the cat treated with? Something from the vets, presumably, like Frontline? You got it well on the skin yes, not the fur?

You often have to spray the house twice, two weeks apart, since many sprays don't kill eggs or don't get them all - so you need to spray again to get eggs that have hatched out in the interim.

Fleas are very aggressive pests and very difficult to get rid of. But it is possible.

You made a good start. Now what you need is Borax. Sprinkle it liberally on your carpet and furniture, leave for about 20 minutes, then vacuum up. And keep vacuuming every day for about 2 weeks to get any new eggs and newly hatched fleas there are.

After that, treat your cat with some flea repellent product such as Front Line, Revolution, or Advantix. And see about getting your yard treated for fleas too, in case they're hiding there.

Consider gardening: There are a number of aromatic herbs that fleas don't like, such as sage, fennel, rue, and tansy. And many of these are wonderful additions to the kitchen as well.

Good luck!

I'm going to sort of start at the top here and take it by the numbers:

Front Line is good for the cat.

Washing, spray, vaccum were all good steps.

At this point I would have to either say try a different spray on the furnature, or look into a "flea bomb" for the house. (Gas)

i have two cats that get fleas from time to time, and the best thing for fleas on the cats is front line, it gets rid of them for a good few months, you might have to go to the vets to buy it and it is quite expensive but it is the best stuff. you just seperate the hair on the back of the neck and put the front line drops on the back, dont be worried if your cat the has a mad dash around the house, it just means the stuff is working, cause he/she can feel all the fleas running round. if you do buy the stuff just make sure you do put it right on the back of their neck where they cant wash it off, i made the mistake of putting it where my cat could get to it once and he kept dribbling where he was licking it off, it's quite scarey.
