After all, they're illegally crossing the border between the two sides of the street, so they MUST be heading somewhere to commit a crime, right?

The point I'm getting at is just because someone crosses our border illegally doensn't mean that you should assume the absolute worst of them. Yes, there are plenty that come up here to mooch, ut even if the majority are here to mooch off the that doesn't give you the right to say ALL of them are moochers are, as though it is absolute fact, any more than to claim as absolute fact that all legal citizens of this country are upstanding tax payers who never cheat the government by lying on their taxes, taking goverment assistence they don't need or break the law in any other way, or that they do but it's acceptible for them to do so because they're legal citizens and thus have the right to do whatever, whenever they please.

"One crime has nothing to do with the other. The existence of one type of crime does not excuse or minimize the other"
Neither does the fact that someone has commited one crime prove that they've commited,, or are bound to commit every crime that there is.
Labelling someone as a hardened and dangerous criminal with no regard for the law for commiting one crime. regardless of what the crime is, is like calling someone who only had one beer in their entlire life as a hardcore alcoholic.
I never said that illegal imimigration isn't a crime, just that it's wrong to assume that just because someone has disregard for ONE law that they have disregard for ALL laws.
I never said illegally immigrating into this country isn't (or even shouldn't be), a crime, but again just because they are guilty of one crime doesn't inherently mean that they're bound to or have commit, or have already commited others.

lmao, i understand what you are trying to say and agree to it for the most part, but no use tryin to explain to these people, because they are single minded and don't want to think about anything but their way. Ive tried and all Ive got is rude remarks that got my blood pressure up, from people calling me a bimbo to assuming that I'm young, but in the end its not worth it to argue with them, if these people want to be ignorant on this subject let them be. i would love to see them live in Mexico and see how they would react, they would do the same as the Mexicans migrate somewhere else. for some reason people don't see both sides, they only see theirs, which is wrong but the way it works.

At the moment that someone jaywalks, yes, they are committing a crime. If caught, they are subject to ticketing or whatever punishment has been decided for that city, town, or state. Once that "crime" is completed and the fine or debt to society paid, it's DONE. For the largest majority possible, that is the only crime, rarely is that person heading off to commit yet another.
When someone crosses the border into the US without proper documentation, that person has committed the first of a series of crimes. Once that person begins driving in this country and is driving uninsured or unlicensed or both, yet another crime. Again, another one if they start working as, in order to get a job in this country you must have proper working papers making it legal for you to do so. If you have faked or stolen papers, you are committing yet another crime. Not to mention the tax evasion, the welfare fraud, etc., that occurs. And so on, and so on, and so on. What was your point? Jaywalking is a misdemeanor, and not even punishable in many areas with any more than a small fine, if that. Being here illegally and the crimes committed in that pursuit are not misdemeanors, many if not all are felonies. Plus, unlike the jaywalker, the majority of illegals that come here continue on to commit the above crimes and more.
HUGE GLARING difference.

I love it when people compare crossing an international boundary with jaywalking but hey lets play along. Yes, its illegal to jaywalk and those who do so should be punished appropriately by the justice system.
Illegal immigration is ohhhh I don't know illegal and not just for jaywalking across the border but for living and existing and WORKING against the law. The appropriate punishment is deportation back to their home country, this is the same as every other country in the world... shocking I know - If you want a wonderful example of a country who is excellent at enforcement of their immigration laws look towards Mexico.

No. It is very different.
The desire to stop illegal immigration and to make them follow some path toward legitimate citizenship is to know who has the courage to accept the laws of this land. These people enter our country without permission, then demand to be taken care of by our government and society? Maybe if they showed this nation the respect of gaining entry legally, others would show them more respect.
As a taxpayer, I'm aggravated by my taxes going to take care of someone who is not even a citizen of the United States! What have they done to prove themselves worthy of that gift? Have they obeyed the laws of the land? I feel that any illegal who comes forward honestly, with a desire to become a US citizen should be shown that path and assisted in that course of action, but NOT provided access to government programs until they are on that path. We need to stop the handouts and get people to take responsibility for themselves and be accountable for the actions they've already taken.
Not all illegals come across the border with an intent to commit crime, but just like that jaywalker that gets caught by the cop a block away...they should pay the price for their crime if they want the government to help them.

Your comparison is quite weak, Let me shred it to pieces for you in a few well thought out sentences. A criminal trespasser on the soveriegn soil of America is guilty of a crime with the first step across the border. As long as they choose to remain, they continue to be a criminal, & they must commit numerous other crimes in order to remain undetected while remaining in America.
I presume that the J-Walker is a citizen of whatever nation they reside in, therefore they are subject to the federal, state & local laws of the nation in which they reside. Your J-Walker, if hit & injured during the commission of the crime, is totally, financially, & legally responsible for the costs incurred while commiting this crime of J-Walking. There is no real comparison because the J-Walker is a legal citizen and the illegal immigrant is a freeloader who is willing to ignore any law that prohibits their rise to prosperity.
If the words are too big, too bad.

Jaywalking is a misdemeanor. If you are a legal resident, you could conceivably be deported by committing a misdemeanor.
That's a fact!
When you "jaywalk" across a border illegally, (particularly with permanent residence intent) without legal and proper paperwork that entitles you to preside there, you are committing a felony. A felony is a criminal act that is far more serious than a misdemeanor.

Yes, but walking across the street does not compare with sneaking across the border. Let the punishment fit the crime. Ticket the jaywalker and deport the illegal. There....thats what you wanted right?

What's your address? I don't like my house much, I think I'll break into yours and live there from now on without your permission. Or are you a hypocrite?

So your point is that illegal aliens aren't necessarily committing other crimes? No sh*t, Sherlock. But some do commit other crimes and it irks most of us because people like you pee their pants anytime we say something should be done about it.
Of course it IS kinda hard to live and work in a country illegally without stealing someone's identity. IDENTITY THEFT is the number one rising crime in the United States. Do I really have to spell it out for you?
And you're right, I'm sure 100% of all illegal aliens pay their EMERGENCY ROOM BILLS. And they fall all over themselves to pay their INCOME TAXES on their under-the-table jobs. Sure they do.

If someway jaywalks, yes they break the law.
And they should be ready to be held accountable to the full extent of it.
And illegal aliens are still criminals with no right to be in the United States.
One crime has nothing to do with the other. The existence of obne type of crime does not excuse or minimize the other.
You really seem stuck on trying to compare crimes to excuse the illegal alien criminals .
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Ok Fabio, or whatever you call yourself. Right after I j-walk my crime is complete. I am no longer in the act of committing a crime. An illegal alien cannot say the same. There crime is simply being here. The only way that they can say the same is if they left my country.

Jaywalkers are committing a crime when they cross the street out of cross walks.
Illegal aliens are not even close to being that simple. The issues there are far, far more complex.
A supurb reference to study. But let me add, the open border and the free passage of people into and out of this country has lead to an influx of the worst drugs that are available. We are losing Billions every year to their crime, and the crime that is associated with the illegal aliens is remarkably significant.
Mexico very badly needs to take care of its own people. In fact, they are sending them north. In my little cow town on the Mexican Border, they closed the hospital with unpaid debts, and then closed every hospital within one hundred miles.
It is.. it is going to stop.
