Do you mean that God inculcates morality in peoples minds,

or

that we learn it from scripture?

(No right or wrong answers here; I'm just trying to figure out what people think).

Thanks in advance.

Dave C: try reading the question next time.

Sorry Dave: I guess I did mean that the person should understand the question. Notice how I gave two options in the details? It would be helpful if you wrote about them.

But I guess you're not alone Dave - none of the believers so far seem to be able to read and understand the question.

Dave, I don't know how to make this any more clear: when you say "comes from God" do you mean that he inculcates morality in peoples minds, or that it comes from scripture?

Yes, I believe the very basis for morality comes from God. You'll find Atheists and Evolutionists who claim to be moral people without God, but that doesn't mean their morality comes from themselves. Just as believing a thing doesn't make it so -- *not* believing a thing doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

EDIT: skeptic: I read the question. I'm sorry you do not see how my answer applies to your question.

You also said there were no right or wrong answers. I guess you really didn't mean that.

EDIT: skeptic: Another requirement is that you understand the answer. What part of "comes from God" did you not understand?

EDIT: skeptic: OK, fine, I can see how you can interpret "comes from God" to mean the Bible. Sorry, didn't think of that -- though it is entirely true that the Bible does come from God. ;-) So, to be more clear...

I believe God designed mankind, in spite of sin, to posses a basic moral sense. It comes by the Holy Spirit as our conscience -- which we can grieve away until we have no moral fiber left.

I don't believe morality specifically requires God. Having deep spiritual values certainly is beneficial.

I come from a Christan family. From the time I was a child I was taught the scriptures. My parents raised us based on these values.

I have strayed off the "path" too many time to count. Some way, I always manage to get back on track.

I would assume that most people feel they are not adequate in their ability to tell right from wrong. Maybe too objective for most since we seem to have the innate ability to change our minds about right and wrong from one day to the next. A moral absolute give one a very self righteous ability to finger point, judge, and carry out sentence without losing any sleep or elections.

Hebrews 10:16, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Without Gods word we have no set of standards to live by. Our conscious bears witness to the word because it convicts us when we do wrong, even a child will do just the opposite of what you tell him until he is either taught not to do that or until their conscious convicts them so much that they stop what ever they are doing. It takes Prison sometimes to snap a person into reality but the end a lot of inmates have said it saved their lives. Some had never read the Bible but knew what they were doing was wrong but had not been taught to stop doing it. It seemed nobody cared. But God did care, He sent his Jesus Christ to die on a Cross for us that we might have eternal life. His death on the cross washed away our sins and now if we will only believe we can become born again and recieve the free gift of salvation and enjoy eternal life in Heaven someday. Have you ever ask Jesus into your heart and been born again? Have you ever confessed to Christ you are a sinner in need of a Saviour? You can right now, no one knows what tomorrow may bring, if you would like to be saved and have Jesus in your heart just Pray this Prayer, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

Your question is good but predetermined.
But I guess the right answer is: morality, ethics is formed by the environment of its actuality, and often not originated by Creationist view even when its result seems to be identical .
Practicality and commonsenxe defines it, not religious belief.

Skeptic,
The very fact we are here requires God. About morality, all I can tell you is that in my own case I've always had a dread of committing anything whose consequence, if bad, I couldn't reverse.

I don't believe that morality requires God, lots of believers are horrible people.

However, people who do believe this believe so because the Bible is "God's word", and they get their morality from the bible.

I am an atheist. I get my morality from: Treating others as I would like them to treat me.

religions teach good and evil.... How ever as humans evolved our conscience evolved and with it a concept of right and wrong... then we began to measure what we see as right and wrong to the churches definitions of good and evil... and often we found it to be the opposite... even the church who gained power through war and violence and murder... in the end had to concede to peace, the result of the evolution of human conscience..
