I have the springfield, my boss has the glock. Thought we would put it to a vote.

Springfield XD all the way of these two. I own a Colt myself, but the Springfield is copied from it. The Glock feels clumsy to me, so I cannot do well in quick draw with it. I hate the trigger system on it too. My brother-in-law has a big Glock and a small one, but I can easily outshoot him with my Colt or several other pistols I own. I cannot shoot a Glock very accurately, and my brother-in-law is even worse with it. I asked why people like Glocks once, and some men insulted me because I did not like it. I nearly sued one clown for libel. Glocks are too hard to clean. One man said he can strip his down in 30 seconds, but I can clean 4 or 5 of my best pistols in that amount of time. I take meds with steroids for asthma that cause my hands to tremble violently for an hour or two. I can clean some of my guns even with the trembling, but I cannot do it to my CZ-75, and the Glock is even worse than the CZ-75 for cleaning. For combat situations, one needs the best pistol he can find, and the Glock is not anywhere near it in my observation. I wrote a book about "12 Criteria for Choosing a Combat Pistol". The Glock fails several of my criteria for choosing a combat pistol, while the Springfield scores good to excellent on them all.

A Kimber 1911 is awesome if you are willing to pay that much. For me it came down to the Glock 21 and the Smith & Wesson M&P.45. Holding the Glock 21 is like holding a 2x4. Its a great reliable gun though, just not very ergonomic unless you have hands like an NBA star. I ended up going with the M&P. Its been a very fine gun. I've run almost 500 rounds of various types through it since I bought it in November. I have never had a FTF, FTE, nor any other problems. The trigger at first was not very smooth but after about a 100 or so rounds through it, it has smoothed out nicely. Give them a look! Hope this helps!

Although I trained at Glocks armorers school, I am not a fan of the 21. The glock pistols are well made, decently accurate, dependable as all get out and I like the tennifor finish. I'd take the springfield XP over it. The springfield is well made, dependable, accurate etc just as good as the Glock. What I really like about the springfield is that grip safety. Both the Glock and Springfield have the "safe action" trigger which means that as soon as your finger touches the trigger, the safety is off. The springfield has that second safety (grip). Yes, you can add an aftermarket thumb type safety to the Glock, and I would!! I have a very good friend who was chasing John Q badguy on foot. My friend had his Glock in his right hand. As JQ Badguy headed towards a wooden fence, my friend, while on the run, pushed his Glock back into the hip holster he wore when in plain clothes, somehow the retaining strap slipped inside the trigger guard and you guessed it, he shot himself thru the right butt cheek, then down thru the calf of his leg. Luckily missing the bones in his leg. He recovered, JQB was caught and all turned out well. The point being, that holstering a glock in a hurry can get you hurt or killed. Even without a retaining strap, there have been cases of shirttails, belts, an AA battery etc tripping the trigger on glock pistols. I have carried most of the brands and types of firearms at one time or another, as well as working on them. For CCW, I carry a Para Ord "nite hawg" in .45acp. For non concealed wear when on duty I carried a 1911 style pistol. My wife has carried several pistols as a ccw, but she is now carrying a Springfield XP compact in .45acp. I'm impressed with the pistol. I especially like the extended grip mag that comes with it, so you can change from the 10 round flush fitting mag, to the 13 round extended mag and have a full frip for a person with big hands, like me. Although in the end it boils down to personal choice, and in my opinion and experience both pistols are good choices, I choose the Springfield over the Glock.

I would go for the Springfield. The design been around forever (well since 1911 anyway) Glock may have more bells and whistles, but the Springfield design have been proven over and over as reliable. (now watch all the hubbub about this) Either one would be a good choice because of the .45 ACP caliber. And nowadays you can get both with like 16 rounds or some crazy amount....

If by springfield you mean the XD, than I think that this question will end up like the remington/mossberg pump gun discussions. Both are great (don't own either but have tried them) and it will just boil down to personal taste

I'm putting my vote in for the XD, though because thats what I prefer

Glock. John Browning, inventor of the 1911, did away with the grip safety when he improved his 1911 in his last and best the P-35 Browning Hi Power.

Best.

I prefer the XD myself. Better safety features. I should say more safety features. Better feel and fit to my hand. They look better. I like how they shoot better. I did a similar survey a couple of months ago and Springfield won by several votes. I did not save my findings though.

Tie...........XD for accuracy, extra safeties, and barrel rifling (for lead) while Glock for barrel life, parts accessability, and rugged design

For fun, the XD would be a better choice, but for straight combat and utility the Glock kicks it's ***.

No comparison here..... Springfield all the way...... I have fired both of them many times, friends of mine bring them to the range all the time.... the Glocks accuracy is the worst I have seen in a handgun ever.... in fact my friend traded it in for a Springfield armory XD..... he likes it alot better.... I still like the Beretta the best, but thats my choice.....

Springfield. Added benefit of grip safety and, personally, feels better in the hand.
