Remington Model 700 series Bolt Action Rifles are the #1 selling rifle on the market today. The Remington's are still being manufactured whereas the Winchester Model 70's haven't been in production for years. The second most popular rifle is the Savage Arms 110 series Bolt Action rifles.
Mossberg makes a decent rifle for the money but it is ranked 3rd under the Remington and Savage rifles. You aren't very specific as to what exactly you want to know here, so the most I can tell you is that the Remington is the higher costing rifle followed by the Savage then the Mossbergs. The new production Remington's,Savages, Mossbergs are being made in Standard and Magnum rifle calibers that will suit your purposes, not knowing what you intend to hunt with it. Some additional questions in detail would make it easier for us to help you even further....

Who Makes Mossberg Rifles

I have ten or twelve rifles I consider "deer guns," and the Remington 700 is one (actually several) of my favorites. I don't have any experience with Mossberg, so I can't speak to them, but it's hard to go wrong with Remington. About 15 years ago, I got their 700 Mountain in 7mm08 for my father, and that's about the perfect combination for mixed woods and open, still and stand hunting, though I like all sorts of calibers from 6 to 8mm in a bolt-action (along with some larger bores in lever guns).

If that's your only choice, I would go with the remington. because Remington makes a more accurate rifle by far than the mossberg. Besides if you ever decide to trade the gun in, you would get more money for the remington than the latter.

Mossbergs are somewhat lower-end than Remingtons. Which one to buy depends largely on your budget. Most will agree that Remington makes better firearms but Mossberg sells their guns for around 20% less.

I love my Remington Model 742 semi-auto in 30-06. Great rifle. I have been told the Mossberg's are good rifles, but I have not used one. I would think it is your own personal preference.

Think seriously about Remington or Savage in 30-06 caliber because you have a larger variety of bullet weights to choose from.* When you have the 30-06 you don't need another Rifle.*

Remington 700 comes in several "grades" of gun, from relatively cheap to "getting on up there" . The one thing they all have in common is that they are darn good guns.
If you can pick only one gun and also don't want to break the bank, pick the 700 ADL in 30-06 caliber and put the best scope on it that you can afford. You will have an all-around hunting rifle that can be used on anyting from coyotes to moose and bear.

I see nobody has a had too much to say about Mossberg rifles. I have a 100 ATR and it a is a good, accurate gun. It isnt much of a looker, but who cares, its gonne get scratched up anyway, and i paid less than $300 for it. I bet some people feel stupid becuase my $275 rifle can shoot better than their $700 rifle.

I have a Rem. Model 788 .308 bolt action, this is a fine deer gun and shots pretty well. (they don't make this gun anymore but replaced with Other models)
My other rifle is a Marlin 30as lever action 30/30 which is a nice gun for deer. My pick is the lever action, I like the way it shoots. I have friends that use .270 and .243, but the most important decision is does it feel right in my hands.
