In California, you can go to traffic school and get the ticket dismissed so you get no points. You can do this once every 2 or three years. Additionally most insurance companies will not penalize you for one infraction if you have a lengthy clean record.

Yes it will. There is no such thing as a minor speeding ticket, either. Speeding kills. Speeding leads to accidents, all things car insurance companies view as high risk. So if you speed, they view you as high risk and charge you more money than those you are whizzing by. Your rates will usually go up for at least 4 years. Your policy should have a detailed explanation of how much your rates will go up and for how long. Some companies even drop people who get tickets, then you must get high risk insurance, which will cost an arm and a leg.

So, bottom line, the extra five minutes one saves by exceeding the posted limit may cost them many, many times over. Some states, like NY, are even assessing driver responsibility fees ( several hundred a year) for moving violations in addition to fines and higher rates.

Yes, it's true. They don't care why you were speeding, they don't care how "minor" it was ... it was enough to get you noticed by the cops and get yourself pulled over.

The insurance companies will bite you in the rear end because of it. Was getting there 2 minutes earlier and showing off how "cool" you are worth the double premiums, the points on your license? Didn't think so, now learn from it.

situations of effects scale are three:

1) your ticket and the severity of it.

2) your insurance company and how they view it. (points for all tickets. x point for raise v waive the first offense and keep on record three years.)

3) your age
