Strange question -- I know -- but this year I seem to be talking out loud to myself a lot more -- I was just wondering is there anyway to stop or at least control it? thanks

Chew gum to keep your mouth busy. Wear a rubber band around your wrist and snap it whenever you find yourself talking to yourself out loud. Examine what it is you're talking out loud to yourself about and see if there's a pattern...then deal with whatever it is or change the pattern. Good luck.

The only time I have ever had a problem with controlling what thoughts came out of my mouth, I was drinking every night with my friends, not sleeping more than three hours per night, eating once every two or three days, and essentially killing myself by lifestyle. If you are doing any of these three things, try changing them. If not, perhaps you have a vitamin deficiency and should consider taking a multivitamin every day. If that doesn't work, you should consider talking to your family general practitioner to get a referral.

I don't really see where the problem is. A lot of people do that (even me). I do it to help myself reason thru things. My husband has often commented that he doesn't worry about me talking to myself but if he ever hears me answering myself he's taking me to the mental hospital. Personally I don't see anything wrong with it. Granted, reasoning things out in your head instead of out loud might help you control talking to yourself but sometimes you just have so many things going thru your head at once that talking out loud to yourself can help you focus on that one thought.

Usually by the time someone realizes that they are talking aloud to themselves they already have the habit well formed and usually it is too late to stop without some super effort. It can be gotten hold of and reduced and eliminated but not by unconciouse and ignorant efforts.

I don't think it needs to be controlled. But I sing aloud a lot. I think if I didn't I would talk to myself more. So maybe sing?

Go ahead, No one cares. Look at people while you are driving. Everyone's doing it. As long as you aren't hearing voices or seeing things that aren't there.
